Lunar New Year is coming soon but it didn’t feel like new year for me. Here’s my rough schedule:
*Feb 17: Lunar New Year Eve*
Every year, we’ll have this reunion dinner. It almost seemed - actually it’s probably true - that we don’t gather our whole family together asides this reunion dinner. My relatives from the paternal side would all come to my place and have a nice dinner together. It’s always good to see them again. We have prawns every year. I find prawns okay.
*Feb 18: Lunar New Year Day 1*
My family goes to the church to receive blessings. Some people go to the Chinese temple to pray. I go to my camp in the morning. I have duty on the first day of Lunar New Year. After going to church, my family would go visiting relatives, it’s quite a tiring process. I didn’t really like visiting all my relatives, I get very tired in the evening. Families would usually hand red packets to the unmarried people (kids and overgrown kids like me). I have duty last year too. I find the duties okay.
*Feb 19: Lunar New Year Day 2*
Same as Day 1 basically, minus the church, temple visiting and duty in camp. I would return home at 8 AM and wait at my house for people to visit my family. In the evening, my friend Benedict would be leaving Singapore for Australia to study so I’ll probably go to the airport to goodbye him.
*Feb 20: Lunar New Year Day 3*
This day is still a public holiday for Singapore due to an in-lieu public holiday that falls on a Sunday. Visiting ramdom friends usually.
*Feb 21: Lunar New Year Day 4*
A friend is going for an operation so my friends and I would be doing some visiting. Work begins for most people. I took an off day. I can imagine people having Wednesday blues, after all most people have been resting for 4 days.
*Feb 22: Lunar New Year Day 5*
I have a medical appointment. I’m very lazy to go to those appointments actually. I also took an off day I think.
