Hey, it’s mooncake eating day!

Uncategorized

I am just aware about this a while ago only. Today is actually mooncake eating day. I don’t have a picture of a mooncake to show you guys since it’s in my tummy right now. Today’s Mid Autumn Festival, when the moon is supposedly the roundest all year, so claims the Chinese. One billion people can’t be wrong!

Have a great mid autumn everyone. I’m a little busy, some problems cropped up too but things are beginning to be okay. I think. I hope.

I’m happily working on Labor Day

Uncategorized

What’s really fortunate is that today is Labor Day and I’m working on Labor Day. Nothing beats beings in camp during a non-working day.

We had this duty system going on that makes me working once a week every fortnight, so I kinda had to stay in camp during weekends every fortnight. The camps aren’t busy during the weekends. (Of course, there are exceptions when life sucks especially on a weekend duty.)

The whole place is quiet and nice, the warren officers are more relaxed today too. After all, it’s Labor Day. The real bonus of working during Labor Day is that you are returned with a day off for your effort. There really is no gain if you look at it on the surface.

But think of this scenario, you stay in camp, doing nothing much and gain a day off. Then you use a day’s off to clear on a working day. That means you kinda work lesser right? Right on!

Easter has just past and B.J. Novak complained that Cadbury Easter eggs have actually gotten smaller!

And you believed you’ve grown smaller.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Uncategorized

I know I’m a little late but Happy Lunar New Year! æ?°å¹´å¿«ä¹ï¼

I wasn’t really free the past couple of days. I was having duty in camp during Day 1 and Day 3. It was a little demoralizing but not too bad. We need to be prepared just in case of some disaster that may occur during Chinese New Year. And when such an event occurs, we move out as soon as we can. [Yay, 109 Days left!]

This year’s Lunar New Year I only visited my cousin’s place and no where else. I went there and announced that their house is the first place I visited and likely the last place too.

My mother helped me collect the 红å?? (red packets) though. I’ve gotten some extra cash, not too bad I guess. The Chief of Signals gave me a Toto ticket (which he claims worth 650k) and I was fumbling with the remote at my cousin’s to check if I actually won something. I have 4 sets of 6 numbers, a total of 24 numbers. I scanned the Teletext screen hard and crushed the lottery ticket.

I see not even one number that appear on my ticket; out of 24 numbers, not 1 is similar… Am I lucky or what? Maybe they should hand me a consolation prize or something.

Anyway… æ?°å¹´å¿«ä¹ï¼?ä¸?äº?å¦?æ?ï¼ (I don’t really know how to translate that. It’s something like happy new year and may your wishes come true.)

My lunar new year plans

Uncategorized

Lunar New Year is coming soon but it didn’t feel like new year for me. Here’s my rough schedule:

*Feb 17: Lunar New Year Eve*

Every year, we’ll have this reunion dinner. It almost seemed - actually it’s probably true - that we don’t gather our whole family together asides this reunion dinner. My relatives from the paternal side would all come to my place and have a nice dinner together. It’s always good to see them again. We have prawns every year. I find prawns okay.

*Feb 18: Lunar New Year Day 1*

My family goes to the church to receive blessings. Some people go to the Chinese temple to pray. I go to my camp in the morning. I have duty on the first day of Lunar New Year. After going to church, my family would go visiting relatives, it’s quite a tiring process. I didn’t really like visiting all my relatives, I get very tired in the evening. Families would usually hand red packets to the unmarried people (kids and overgrown kids like me). I have duty last year too. I find the duties okay.

*Feb 19: Lunar New Year Day 2*

Same as Day 1 basically, minus the church, temple visiting and duty in camp. I would return home at 8 AM and wait at my house for people to visit my family. In the evening, my friend Benedict would be leaving Singapore for Australia to study so I’ll probably go to the airport to goodbye him.

*Feb 20: Lunar New Year Day 3*

This day is still a public holiday for Singapore due to an in-lieu public holiday that falls on a Sunday. Visiting ramdom friends usually.

*Feb 21: Lunar New Year Day 4*

A friend is going for an operation so my friends and I would be doing some visiting. Work begins for most people. I took an off day. I can imagine people having Wednesday blues, after all most people have been resting for 4 days.

*Feb 22: Lunar New Year Day 5*

I have a medical appointment. I’m very lazy to go to those appointments actually. I also took an off day I think.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Uncategorized

It’s Valentine’s Day again so happy Valentine’s day to everyone. Hope that you will have a good time if your love one.

And you can also do some unromantic things on Valentine’s Day - like I did - I went to read Wikipedia to find out about the day itself. It’s quite interesting though.

Later I’ll be going to East Coast park and I hope no one would contact me the whole day. It’s unlikely though, I almost wanted to leave my phone at home.

Scary image when I log into my web mail

This is what I get when I log into Windows Live Mail:

Malaysian Thaipusam festival

This kinda scared me for a while. I didn’t know Thaipusam festival is here. My set of news is more regionalized I guess.
