Sometimes it’s hard to catch the lyrics of rap. This video translates it for you.

Come, let’s learn some malay:
Selamat datang means “welcome” (Used as a greeting).
Selamat jalan mean “have a safe journey” (equivalent to “goodbye”, used by the party staying).
Selamat tinggal means “goodbye” (Lit translation: “Good stay”, used by the party going).
Selamat pagi means “good morning”.
Selamat petang means “Good afternoon or good evening” (note that ‘Selamat petang’ must not be used at night as in English. For a general greeting, use ‘Selamat sejahtera’).
Selamat sejahtera means formal greetings.
Selamat malam means “good night”.
Okay okay… Enough already. Selamat malam everyone. (More on Wikipedia)
“Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo” is a grammatically correct sentence used as an example of how homonyms and homophones can be used to create complicated constructs.
Sentence construction
The sentence is unpunctuated and uses three different readings of the word “buffalo”. In order of their first use, these are:
- c. The city of Buffalo, New York (or any other place named “Buffalo”), which is used as an adjective in the sentence and is followed by the animal;
- a. The animal buffalo, in the plural (equivalent to “buffaloes”), in order to avoid articles and is used as a noun;
- v. The verb “buffalo” meaning to bully, confuse, deceive, or intimidate.
It may be revealing to read the sentence replacing all instances of the animal buffalo with “people” and the verb buffalo with “intimidate”. The sentence then reads
“Buffalo people [whom] Buffalo people intimidate [also happen to] intimidate Buffalo people.”
Preserving the meaning more closely, substituting the synonym “bison” for “buffalo” (animal), “bully” for “buffalo” (verb) and leaving “Buffalo” to mean the city, yields
‘Buffalo bison Buffalo bison bully bully Buffalo bison’, or:
‘Buffalo bison whom other Buffalo bison bully themselves bully Buffalo bison’.
This is the same sentence structure and meaning as ‘Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo’.
Just thought it’s something interesting that I random spotted at Wikipedia. Read more at Wikipedia.
The HTML5 draft reflects an effort, started in 2004, to study contemporary HTML implementations and deployed content. The draft:
- Defines a single language called HTML 5 which can be written in HTML (HTML5) and XML (XHTML5).
- Defines detailed processing models to foster interoperable implementations.
- Improves markup for documents.
- Introduces markup and APIs for emerging idioms, such as web applications.
I kinda blog about this HTML5 thing for my own benefit. I just thought it would be useful to take a look at it again another time. They are introducing new elements such as <dialog>, <figure>, <nav>, <header>, <footer>, <datagrid>, <progress> and more. Good news is that getElementsByClassName() is going to be added.
And it would seem like HTML5 is stepping in to help developers expand the capabilities of their web application. It appears that the internet is very serious about moving to the direction of web applications. It may be a good idea to prepare to enter this industry. I’m entering it and I’m pretty optimistic about it.
Elements such as <header>, <article> and <footer> isn’t really necessary, but if developers were to all deploy these tags, they probably isn’t a need for those feeds at all. Every website can easily become feed-enabled.
They’re dropping some elements though, such as the <u>, <frame>, <frameset> and <center>.
Unfortunately, with all these additions, HTML5 is getting more complicated. The learning curve would get steeper. There use to be a time HTML is about layout and positioning and everyone’s using <table>. But things are changing, it’s about layout and XML items. They just sort of changed direction or something. Teachers are probably going to find it hard to explain a macro picture of why those new elements are present in HTML. My web publishing teacher in school isn’t even teaching me CSS that time! In fact, she’s still teaching about font tags when it is already deprecated. CSS was a ‘read-up’ thing. Good to know, don’t need to know for examinations.
Just want to share my thoughts about HTML5, hahaa… Sorry that this post is a little disorganized, I typed in a hurry.
This document describes the differences between HTML4 and HTML5 and provides some of the rationale for the changes that have been made to the language.
By the way, I’ll be studying Java in school. I know nothing about Java but it always seemed like the tired and boring programming language. Ruby on Rails sounded cool but I never had time to play around with it. I frequent a lot of pro-Ruby websites and I somehow got psycho-ed into thinking how great Ruby on Rails really is.

Warning: The video below consists of vulgarities and slight racism. A Malaysian man from Johor sings about the styles of being a Muar Chinese, gangster rap way.

Just in case you can’t see the video.
Muar (also referred to as Bandar Maharani) is a town in northwestern Johor, Malaysia. The name “Muar” is also used for the name of its district, which is further sub-divided between the Town of Muar and the sub-district of Tangkak. Muar district borders Malacca on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. However, both administrative regions are still collectively called Muar by their residents. You can find out more information about Muar with Wikipedia.
I included a rough English translation for the Mandarin rap, I can only translate it roughly. There’re a few Mandarin words that I don’t understand. Only a portion of the rap has been translated. Please forgive any mistranslations and feel free to correct my translation. I don’t know what is “mangkali”, I heard the term before but I don’t know how to use it, perhaps someone can tell me what it means. Continue reading “Muar Chinese 麻å¡çš„è¯èªžÂž (NSFW)” »
