The manipulation of light and space makes the Penguin House in Tokyo seem much larger.
It’s chinese new year and we had this yearly reunion dinner thing going.

(Our already emptied dining table.)
We had a great meal with our family. Most of my father’s side family came over. We had chicken, duck, chicken, prawn and abalone. And almond jelly.

(We are probably the only family drinking port on reunion dinner.)
I mean who the hell drinks port on new years. Port would like to announce that it has 17.5% alcohol in it.

(All the leftovers are kept in the refrigerator.)

(New covers for the bed.)
My mother got me new covers for my bed, says new year must change bed covers. So yeah. It’s safari and jungle theme as you can see. I don’t like the greens.

(Just thought that my plush elephant might just fit in for a cameo. And there’s a red packet hidden under my pillow. You supposed to sleep on it so that the money grows. No?)

(Another poor attempt on lunar new year decorations.)
My father’s responsible for it I think. He tried (and failed) to induce some Chinese New Year feel to our cold television. It didn’t work. Forgive him for the little white creature that looked like it belonged to Christmas because it did. It’s just there ’cause it’s got this bit of red on its hat and barely made it to the display.

(My cupboard that I did not bother cleaning this year.)
I was a little busy, okay lazy, and I didn’t clean up my cupboard this year. It still looks acceptable I guess so I’m just leaving it that way. I probably try harder during spring cleaning 2009. My tables cleaner already but I took out too many stuff to work on it’s as if I did not clean my table.
February is just going to be a tough month. My assignment deadlines are March 1 and I have the prelims coming on February 27 (Mathematics), March 1 (E-business), March 3 (Computing and Internet) and March 5 (Java). I saw my Gantt chart for my work - it looks very pretty. It’s just going to be busy.
Thank god I almost have no school in February. I think I probably be going a couple of days a week for a couple of hours each time only. The only bad thing is that this time the assignment seemed harder. But well, the secret is… I finished my Java assignment’s program already. Yeah!
Have a good day ahead. Happy lunar new year!
My assignments are done already (more or less). While doing the printing, my printer just stopped and refuse to print anymore. It tells me to put in a new black ink cartridge.

(HP Photosmart C5180 All in one printer.)
It even knows that I am using a genuine HP ink cartridge. Quite impressive. I wonder what if I put in a pirated one, would it have some sort of warning. A Cartridge Genuine Advantage program perhaps?
My printer loves ink cartridges, has 6 of them each time. Thought it look kinda pretty when it’s opened up naked and all, I’ll keep the printer open for another hour.
As the deadline for assignment nears, I watch my table pile with more and more notes and books. Soon I won’t be able to touch the surface of my table. Actually I can’t really see my table already.

(My table is so messy!)
Assignment’s quite hard for me. I’m not really good in all those computing hardware things and I sometimes just æµæ°´æ¸é±¼ if you know what I mean. Hope everything goes fine. If you manage to spot me on MSN listening to X Japan, please shout at me to ALT + F4 my iTunes.
Hope that my friends have finished their assignments by now.
I was searching through CASE (Consumer Association of Singapore) with Google and I found this little section where they tell you some CASE tales. One of which goes this way:
A consumer had been using a set of kitchenware from a direct sales company for several years, but then received a phone call from a lady, asking for permission to send personnel to her flat to check the kitchenware. She agreed, thinking that she was calling from the company. The ‘technician’ that came to her flat told her that the kitchenware was defective, and not safe for cooking food. She was ‘persuaded’ to purchase a new set of kitchenware (and paid S$1,000 as deposit), which she later found out, was from another direct sales company instead. She approached CASE for assistance and advice.
CASE wrote in on behalf of the consumer to the 2nd direct sales company, citing that it had violated the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, by making misleading/false claims, and by not informing her of the 3-day cooling-off period. The vendor eventually made a partial refund of S$800 to the consumer. (Source: CASE)
My mother just got cheated by some salesperson and is to pay $3200 for a wok and 6 lame designer pots that she doesn’t need. I’m sorry I’m just fucking pissed with the 2 salesladies.
They came to our house at 2, my mother let them in and it was a prearranged meeting. They gotten hold of our contact because my mother bought pots and pans from them 30 years ago. Can you believe it? Thirty years ago! God hasn’t created me that time.
And today, they came and start introducing. I have nothing against them trying to sell a product. They talked till 5. I was a little afraid that my mother would buy the product so I went to check on her.
Me: What are you selling?
She: A set of pots and woks, they win a Red Dot Design award and… (I don’t remember what she said, she talked for 5 minutes while I was eating an egg tart.)
Me: How much does it cost?
She: Oh, you can’t buy it.
Me: (puzzled) So why are you here?
She: I am here to conduct a survey.
Me: No, you’re selling something. How much does it cost?
She: You cannot buy this outside one. This set is exclusive.
Me: So how much does it cost? (I was feeling so what-the-fuck that time.)
She: This one is only available because your mother is a customer and she bought another set of pots and pans 30 years ago. She can trade in and get these new set of pots and woks in an exclusive deal.
Me: How much? (By then I am losing my patience.)
She: 3000-plus.
Conduct a survey. My ass. This type of sales tactic I see before like a hundred times. I left the house and my mother convinced me that she would not buy it. And guess what, my brother just informed me my mother decided to purchase it. (more…)
I’ve been quite busy this week. Mainly with work and trying to get my frigging scanner to work again. Lots of distraction from my new computer too. I bought a new computer with the following statistics:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - It’s fast
- ASUS P5K motherboard - reasonably priced with innovative features
- 2GB RAM, 800 Mhz (each pair is a gig)
- Western Digital 320GB - I am quite happy with WD so I got another WD)
- Gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT - It’s silent. As in totally silent, cooled with a heatsink. It would be great for my room since I don’t turn off my computer at night sometimes.
- A new Microsoft keyboard…
- A Razer Diamondback - It’s a gaming mouse but it feels good and I just bought it to replace my Microsoft mouse
- LG 18x SATA DVD burner - I kinda trust LG in DVD burners, not in airconditioners though…
- Verudium PSU - It’s pretty quiet I think. Quieter than my old set at least
The whole set up is about SG$1340 excluding my operating system. I bought Windows Vista Business for this computer, it about about SG$240 I think. Bought it for shadow copies and Virtual PC.
I’m quite happy with the buy generally. The computer hasn’t crash on me yet. No hardware failures so far. I installed all the programs back and it all boots nicely now. I just need to get my scanner working and completing my work.
My work’s kinda stuck there a little but well… never mind that.
