Comic actor Bernie Mac dies

Comic actor Bernie Mac died early Saturday of complications from pneumonia, according to a family member and his publicist. He was 50.

He had been hospitalized in Chicago, Illinois, for more than a week with the lung infection.

“When I got the call this morning, it was just devastating news,” said Chicago Sun-Times columnist Stella Foster. “Let’s face it: Bernie Mac was one of a kind. He was the best of the best in terms of giving you a good laugh.” (Source: CNN)

This is really sad and shocking to me.

10 things you didn’t know about you

uncategorized

Well, I won’t show everything, here’s some of them:

  • Body Position Affects Your Memory: Can’t remember your anniversary, hubby? Try getting down on one knee. Memories are highly embodied in our senses. A scent or sound may evoke a distant episode from one’s childhood. (Interesting)
  • Big Brains Cause Cramped Mouths: Evolution isn’t perfect. If it were, we might have wings instead of wisdom teeth. Sometimes useless features stick around in a species simply because they’re not doing much harm.
  • The World Laughs with You: Just as watching someone yawn can induce the behavior in yourself, recent evidence suggests that laughter is a social cue for mimicry. Hearing a laugh actually stimulates the brain region associated with facial movements. (I swear this is true!)

When I see someone smile, I feel like smiling too. It’s natural for me. So smile more and soon you would see more of the world smiling back at you.

Amy Winehouse diagnosed with lung disease

Amy Winehouse has been diagnosed as suffering from lung disease emphysema.

Her father, Mitch Winehouse, told the Sunday Mirror that doctors have warned his daughter that if she continues to smoke drugs she will die.

“With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes her lungs are all gunked up,” he continued. “There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She’s got 70 per cent lung capacity.”

The singer’s father went on to condemn Pete Doherty, who his daughter has recently been hanging out with. “I don’t want her hanging out with her mates like Pete Doherty,” he said. “What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her?” (Source: NME)

Now she’s diagnosed with lung cancer. Here’s a picture of her before and after:

This is what drugs and smoking can do to you. I can’t help but to feel sad for her. And well, bad company too. Life’s a choice and it’s yours, so choose well.

Burger King can help you quit drugs

odd world

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr shares how he quit drugs.

Some addicts say they reach “rock bottom” when they lose their health or their family — but Robert Downey Jr hit his lowest ebb when he ordered a Burger King!

The Iron Man star has publicly thanked the fast food chain for helping him get on the road to recovery by serving him a cheeseburger so disgusting that it forced him to reassess his entire life, according to Britain’s film magazine Empire.

“I have to thank Burger King,” he told the magazine. “It was such a disgusting burger I ordered.

“I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen.”

Downey Jr. says he went and threw all his drugs into the ocean right there and then. (Source: OK Magazine

Well… I don’t know if Burger King would be pleased about it.

Six most frequently quoted bullsh*t statistics

The 6 Most Frequently Quoted Bullsh*t Statistics

  1. You Accidentally Swallow About 8 Spiders a Year: Back in 1993, people were already getting fooled by online urban legends at an amusing rate. So, a columnist for PC Professional named Lisa Holst decided to prove that you could make up anything on the internet and people would believe it. (I guess everyone can sleep well tonight already.)
  2. You Only Use 10% of Your Brain: I knew this is totally nonsense because I don’t find brains that useful.
  3. You Must Wait 30 Minutes After Eating Before Swimming: This somehow spread to my mom and she is a firm believer in a 30-minute wait at the swimming pool if something was eaten.

Read more at Cracked.

I always hear strange unverified statistics. You can’t possibly get your friends to include a source in whatever they say. But sometimes, I wish they did. My mom tells me the strangest statistics and health tips. We really shouldn’t go into that.

15-year-old girl switched blood type after transplant

Uncategorized

Well, this is something interesting:

An Australian girl spontaneously changed blood groups and adopted her donor’s immune system after a liver transplant, in what doctors treating her said Thursday was the first known case of its type.

Australian girl switched blood type after transplant: doctors

Demi-Lee Brennan was aged nine and seriously ill with liver failure when she received the transplant, doctors at a top Sydney children’s hospital told AFP.

Nine months later they discovered she had changed blood types and that her immune system had switched over to that of the donor after stem cells from the new liver migrated to her bone marrow.

She is now a healthy 15-year-old, Michael Stormon, a hepatologist treating her, told AFP. He said he had given several presentations on the case around the world and had heard of none like it.

“It is extremely unusual — in fact we don’t know of any other instance in which this happened,” Stormon told AFP from the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
