reviews

Now it seems like everyone’s talking about Da Vinci Code, I am asked at least 5 times on whether I read Da Vinci Code. That’s a book by Dan Brown, also author of Angels & Demons, perhaps one of the most controversial fiction titles ever written.

Now that the movie is coming up, more people start to talk about it. The controversial part lies in Jesus Christ fathering Mary Magdalene a child. That statement is enough to make the church curse, I mean, scream.

My mother just went to church yesterday to listen about the mistakes that Dan Brown made in Da Vinci Code. It is the church latest efforts to attempt to let believers understand Brown’s book better. Because, once again, Brown made some factual errors. And the greatest error is perhaps to claim his book is historically accurate.

_(The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown. Book cover.)_

Fictional character Robert Langdon is a professor with Havard university, an expert in symbology, a study that Brown invent some time back. Langdon got involved in the death of Sophie Neveu’s grandfather, a museum curator. Neveu and Langdon then set out to find out who killed Neveu’s grandfather only to discover nothing less than the greatest conspiracy the world would ever see.

The style of writing is similar to Angels & Demons - captivating till the last page, lots of history, lots of exageration with history and trying to make Robert Langdon the second smartest man alive, first is Brown himself of course. Unfortunately, the very attempts to boost Langdon’s character intelligence in the book didn’t quite work for me. I cringed on each moment Brown tries to make Langdon smart.

A typical sentence would be like - Most people believe so and so, but experts in the field all know that blah blah blah. No points for figuring out the expert is Robert Langdon himself. It just occurs too many times, till I feel kinda stupid at times. The suspense is still there. I have to admit that that book is one of those I read fastest. I keep wanting to find out what happen next.

I would give The Da Vinci Code novel 4 out of 5 for being fun to read unfortunately historically incorrect in many pages. The Da Vinci Code movie would probably do well too. I still felt Angels & Demons is better, do give it a try if you like The Da Vinci Code.

Anybody good linguist here can help me translate the following to English?

500 Server Error

Server Error

The following error occurred:

Please contact the administrator.

Can anybody tell me what does the above mean? I got that when running it on a test site I have a another domain. I am running WordPress 2.02. Server is Linux, using PHP scripts. I disabled all the plugin already. I get that error message when I am trying to Save or Publish a blog post.

I successfully post the entry but it always return to the 500 Server Error page. I am never successful in doing a pingback. :(

I hate reinstalling Windows! It takes days to get everything the way you want it to be

Exactly! I took so long to get everything up. I’m going back to camp already. Sorry about not replying the comments. I’ll get back and reply them.

It’s not hard to install an operating system, but it certainly is hard to reinstall all the other software that I have installed before. I have so many to install! I just finished it only.

I run into some problems with my computer now. Too many actually. There are trojan horses in my system basically. And I can’t clear them. So I opt for a reformat with my Windows drive after I back things up.

It’s been long since I last reinstalled and perhaps I should have done that long ago. It’s too messed up now.

Most technology enthusiast would certainly recall the time when Bill Gates gave a demonstration of how the blue screen of death occur in front of a live audience.

Technology does fail people at times. Bill Gates is a victim, so is Steve Jobs at times. Just that Bill’s blue screen of death is more - how shall I put it - classic. Well, bugs do occur. I do occasional programming for the army and when things didn’t work my way, I just say, “it’s a bug.”

I’m been updating parts of my blog to better categorize my posts. I don’t have very good organizational skills apparently but I’m trying hard to manage my posts, migrating them around the categories and looking through to see if there are any information I ought not to write.

My blog grew larger by each post and comment submited and I end up changing categories once in a while. January 2006 has seen 22347 unique visitors, 267962 hits and used 2.42 GB of bandwidth. January 2006’s statistics gotten prettier as compared to December 2005’s. But unfortunately my statistics are not accurate since my site is counting each person who hotlink my image only as a unique visitor!

The favorite days to come are Mondays and Fridays. People hate coming to my site on Sundays, I guess they’re out with their family and friends. January caught more spam than any other month too. About 200 I think.

Every month, my blog uses 2.42 GB of bandwidth which is about 12% of my available bandwidth. I gotta start to conserve already. I won’t prevent hotlinking of images at the moment. I plan to post images with a //beconfused logo on the bottom right of all the images I posted in future in hopes of discouraging people from using my bandwidth. I am aware many sites are using my images. The drastic measure would be to ban all external sites from using my images, but I don’t want to spoil the links of others.

Sorry for those annoying recent comments though, the old posts are trying to send pings and they start pinging //beconfused’s own posts.

On a side note, Internet Explorer’s visitors have been decreasing - now to 71%. Firefox users take up 14%. Opera and Apple’s Safari browser takes up 2% of my visitors each.

[EDIT: I wrote that IE's visitors were 'increasing', that was incorrect, they were 'decreasing'.]
