Louis Vuitton advertisement campaign in Japan

Uncategorized

An ad campaign for LOUIS VUITTON by Mamoru Hosoda (of Digimon fame). an updated alice in wonderland, in which a girl, searching for her lost cell phone, floats in a dizzying world of the company’s logos. While waiting to meet her friends outside of a Louis Vuitton store, Aya’s cell phone is eaten by the LV Panda, who then promptly swallows Aya – but the inside of his stomach is gateway to a psychadelic wonderland. Based on characters created by famed superflat artist Takashi Murakami.

Awesome hippy music video!

Uncategorized

Hippy music video featuring terrible lip-synching and scantily-cladded women.

Tommy Seebach – Apache

That is Tommy Seebach (September 14, 1949 – March 31, 2003), born Tommy Seebach Mortensen in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a popular Danish singer, composer, organist, pianist and producer. He gained mainstream popularity in Denmark in 1965, when he became a member of the band Sir Henry And His Butlers, writing many of their most popular hits. In 1976 he emerged as a successful solo artist. His hit album “Tommygun” was released in 1977. At the same time he was in high demand as a producer at his record company EMI, where he was involved in projects for artists such as Lecia & Lucienne. Seebach’s problems with alcoholism took their toll on him and he died at the age of 53 from a heart attack at amusement park Bakken, where he was head of musical entertainment during the past several years.

The song he covered is Apache.

And someone commented on Wikipedia in the same article – Recently, people in the United States have rediscovered the promotional video for Seebach’s 1977 disco version of the Shadows’ hit “Apache,” in which he is seen prancing around the forest with female dancers and attempting to lip-synch. Youtube has been flooded with “Apache” remixes, merely type “Tommy Seebach Vs”.

Remember the time when we stand and greet teachers?

Uncategorized

My friend and I were talking about the things we used to do in the past and one of things he pointed out is that we had to greet teachers in this form ‘Good Morning Madam Tan” while standing up in attention. My friend thinks it’s so communist, hahaa… And after class we stand up and thank the teacher for the class. After a while, it just become so routine that I do it as a chore.

I kinda like those greetings actually. I just wish it would be a little more spontaneous. I wish the teacher come in and just greet you good day and everyone just echo back sincerely. There really is no need to stand up at attention to greet. Not all teachers are comfortable with it too actually. I guess it just sorta got stuck in our culture.

During the ten years of education, we greet teachers like robots. I am still on the process of relearning how to greet people when I see them. I think I greet people more sincerely now.

Nations who have not yet adopted the metric system

Uncategorized

Take a look at this picture that has a map of all the nations who have yet to adopt the metric system. Red denotes the minority who prefer to measure in feet, such as the Subway foot-long sandwich.

Nations who have not yet adopted the metric system.

One of them is USA. Seriously, with all the globalization going on, the 300 million people should perhaps start changing. It’s never to late!

USA, please join the world. Thanks!

Muar Chinese 麻坡的華語ž (NSFW)

Entertain Me

Warning: The video below consists of vulgarities and slight racism. A Malaysian man from Johor sings about the styles of being a Muar Chinese, gangster rap way.

麻坡的華語ž Muar Chinese

Just in case you can’t see the video.

Muar (also referred to as Bandar Maharani) is a town in northwestern Johor, Malaysia. The name “Muar” is also used for the name of its district, which is further sub-divided between the Town of Muar and the sub-district of Tangkak. Muar district borders Malacca on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. However, both administrative regions are still collectively called Muar by their residents. You can find out more information about Muar with Wikipedia.

I included a rough English translation for the Mandarin rap, I can only translate it roughly. There’re a few Mandarin words that I don’t understand. Only a portion of the rap has been translated. Please forgive any mistranslations and feel free to correct my translation. I don’t know what is “mangkali”, I heard the term before but I don’t know how to use it, perhaps someone can tell me what it means. (more…)

Celebrate the year of the pig

Uncategorized

Every time when Chinese New Year comes, you see a bunch of retailers banking on the animal of the year. This year happens to be the year of the pig according to Chinese zodiac. You see gold pigs all around the shopping centers. The Singapore Mint also makes proof coins with pigs in silver and gold. One of the gold coin has colors too and it looks really pretty until closer examination and I realized that there was a pig there.

Swatch wants you to celebrate the year of the pig with them, so they got a bunch of models to act retarded in front of the cameras.

Celebrate the year of the pig with Swatch.

I think the Chinese market is really hard to understand. It’s the year of the pig and so many people are grabbing proof coins. My cousin sells them for the Singapore Mint every year and it’s good business. It’s hard to understand why banking on these pig stuff can actually work because many of these aren’t that pretty. It’s not like the year of the dog or the year of the dragon when those two creatures can actually look cute or majestic.

Pigs, in my opinion, just don’t look that great. Take a look at Swatch’s pig watch, I won’t wear that! My mother bought me an EZ Link card with this pig printed. I asked her if she really thought it was nice and she thought for a while and said, “it looks okay lar.”

“Really?” I asked again.

“Aiya, something different mah.”

[Okay, if you happened to be born in the year of the pig, I'm just saying the pigs don't look nice, you look absolutely great!]
