My friend ran after a thief while I, erm, watched…

Uncategorized

You know what’s worse than nerd talk at Geek Terminal? Four friends playing their own Nintendo DS in TCC without talking to each other. And most people there are catching up with one another.

A while later, I found myself with 2 friends in a stationery shop admiring office tools. Then we heard a scream.

“Stop him! He’s a thief!” she screamed.

I turned and looked, wasn’t this like one of those dramas on television. I never heard anyone shouted ‘thief’ before. My friend ran towards the direction she pointed immediately. I see a few others running towards the exit towards the overhead bridge.

I was feeling confused. I didn’t run. “He’s a thief” she turned to me and screamed. I looked at her and I somehow the only thing I blurt out was, “yeah, I realized.”

From a distance, I saw a hero pounced onto the alleged thief. I guess I didn’t really know how to react. It’s a little exciting but I was in a state of confusion. I didn’t know what’s happening, they caught him on the road and locked him down. I see many confused passersby.

She walked in front of the alleged thief making all sorts of accusations. I vaguely have a picture of what happen. Out of curiosity I asked for more details. Turns out that this thief is a fraudster. He attempted make multiple claims for television sets through a promotion. He used a fake identity card even. He got a free television set through an M1 promotion and he photocopied the claim letter with the M1 letter head.

The staff found the paper to be of a different quality and got suspicious. She questioned the fraudster and he just ran. And she could only think of chasing after all. He made 2 successful claims for the television sets according to her.

The fraudster even called the policeman himself. Then started calling his friends and talking rather nonchalently. He then told the man who detained him, “you don’t need to hold me down, if I run away then I’m gay.”

I laughed.

Anyway, the police came eventually and the fraudster just couldn’t be bothered it seems. He talked to a policeman and ignored the other policewoman who questioned him several times, he finally said something like, “sorry I don’t speak English well I talk to him first”. As the police are jotting down their stuff from the other girl, the fraudster just continued to talk on his phone.

The police probably found him irritating and tell him to get into the police car and shut the doors while the police take down more information. Oh, they confiscated his mobile phone too. Hooray.

We left the scene soon after. The shopkeeper thanked us repeatedly. I didn’t do a thing, just watched. I don’t mean to be sadistic or what, but it’s just very interesting how people work together and provide a helping hand for the someone in need. I think Singaporeans are quite a helpful bunch.

So the fraudster has been caught. So blahblah. We stood there for an hour to see the whole situation but I don’t think it’s just wasting time. We decided to go to TCC and rest our tired legs.

And you know what’s worse than nerd talk at Geek Terminal for an hour? Four friends still playing their own Nintendo DS in TCC.

[Note: I love geek talk. I love Geek Terminal. And I love Nintendo DS too.]

World leader in GunBound kidnapped; didn’t surrender his mobile

Uncategorized

World leader in GunBound kidnapped and he is not surrenderring his user account. How strong willed. Maybe he knows the kidnappers are just a bunch of childish kids - which they are by the way.

Gang Kidnaps Gamer to Get Password Using Fake Orkut Date

An armed gang of four kidnapped one of the world’s top RPG gamers after one criminal’s girlfriend lured him into a fake date using Orkut, Google’s social network. After sequestering him in Sao Paulo, they held a gun against the victim’s head for five hours to get his password, which they wanted to sell for $8,000.

The group leader had a gun against his head all that time but the guy didn’t say a word. At that point, the crooks gave up and decided to let him go. The brazilian police then caught the four suspects, aged 19 to 27.

According to the police, the captive is the world leader in GunBound, a turn-based RPG-style multiplayer online game. Developed in South Korea, in this artillery game you get more experience points, offensive and defensive capabilities depending on your skills during battle, as well as money to buy more weapons, armor and all kinds of gear for your multiple avatars. You can only play with one of your avatars each time, but all of them belong to a single account. (more…)

Women raped before “honor killing”

Uncategorized

Reuters reports a Kurdish woman was brutally raped, stamped on and strangled by members of her family and their friends in an “honor killing” carried out at her London home because she had fallen in love with the wrong man.

Woman raped before “honor killing”: court

Banaz Mahmod, 20, was subjected to the 2-1/2 hour ordeal before she was garroted with a bootlace. Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and taken about 100 miles to Birmingham where it was buried in the back garden of a house.

Her badly decomposed body was found in April 2006, three months after the killing.

Last month a jury found her father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, guilty of murder after a three-month trial. Their associate Mohamad Hama, 30, had earlier admitted killing her.

They believed Banaz had brought shame on the family by leaving her husband, an Iraqi Kurd she had been forced to marry at 17, and falling in love with Rahmat Suleimani, an Iranian Kurd.

In the recordings, transcripts of which were relayed to the court, Hama and his friend are hearing laughing as he described how she was killed with Banaz’s uncle “supervising”.

Reading this makes me think we’re leaving in a sick world. And they did that in London.

A slight mistake; a heavy price

Uncategorized

Things aren’t going great. A lot of things have been happening in army and it is mainly due to a friend and I. I thought that a month ago would hold my very last national service post, but it seems there are some unfinished business.

My friend and I reported an event. Things weren’t that big that time, rather quiet actually. Now the people involved, including me, are in a bit of dilemma. We did the right thing but eventually things clearly did not turn out desirable. In fact, it’s a horror. The current set of friends I have in army are disturbed by a bunch of commanders. (Sorry I could not respect anything besides their ranks.)

One thing I learn is that every word I say, I have to think through it more carefully. I thought I am a careful person when I speak but it seems that I am just not careful enough as illustrated in this incident. It’s a miscalculated move. We did the move without the notion of hurting anyone. It ended up being rather serious. Today, this incident is quite well known actually.

At first I was totally amused by it, laughing and laughing. It sounds really funny really really funny really. Well, that was then. Today, we couldn’t laugh about it anymore. Statements are taken, quite a lot of people are involved. The good guys become the bad guys, I’m really pissed with that. And the bad guy is getting sympathy from others.

Rumors came about that they are setting up a fund to hire a lawyer to fight the case. It made me worried and also upset. They seemed to have missed the point.

If you actually knew what happen and is upset I do this posting - I have the fucking right to post what I want so long as it doesn’t break or obstruct the law. I feel like opening up about the incident. Perhaps some day.

How to get the police’s attention

Uncategorized

Round like a shot.

Round like a shot

Going to bed the other night, I noticed people in my shed stealing things.

I phoned the police but was told no one was in the area to help. They said they would send someone over as soon as possible.

I hung up. A minute later I rang again. ‘Hello,’ I said, ‘I called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don’t have to hurry now, because I’ve shot them.’

Within minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the officers said, ‘I thought you said you’d shot them.’

To which I replied, ‘I thought you said there was no one available.’

Tony Gladstone

This is just too funny. Don’t try this to the local police though. They will not find it to funny.

Anyway, as for what happen to that man… Well, this is probably a joke. If it weren’t a joke, he’ll be charged.

It is likely that this is taken from British newspaper The Times.
