What happens when you rise late?

Entertain Me

This appears to be an advertisement for Dutch insurer Delta Lloyd Groep. It mocks North Korea a little. Quite funny:

China cop promoted for breastfeeding quake babies

odd world

Well, if you perform out of the requirements of your job and benefit the community in China, you might just get a nice promotion.

China cop promoted for breastfeeding quake babies

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese policewoman who breastfed babies orphaned during last month’s earthquake has been given a better job, prompting online protests that promotions should be awarded on merit, not merely for good deeds.

Jiang Xiaojuan, 30, left her own baby with her parents and took part in the disaster relief work, breastfeeding nine babies, earning her the nickname of “the police mum” in the press.

She has since been awarded titles of “hero and model police officer” and “excellent member of the Communist Party”, was appointed to the Communist Party of China Committee of the Jiangyou Public Security Bureau and became the bureau’s vice commissar, Xinhua news agency said on Saturday. While it does seemed strange, I kinda think she deserves it.

Why the Chinese Earthquake Test Centers fail

uncategorized

The quake was the largest the region has seen for over a generation. It was so strong, even countries like Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong felt the shake.

Many people are now calling the Chinese Earthquake Test Centers “useless”, as they were unable to even detect the earthquake before it happened. When they finally announced the earthquake had occured, it was 12 minutes after the disaster, and 2 minutes after the US had announced a large earthquake in China. (Source: WeirdAsiaNews)

Olympic athletes forced to sign contract banning criticism

Uncategorized

British Olympic chiefs are to force athletes to sign a contract promising not to speak out about China’s appalling human rights record - or face being banned from travelling to Beijing.

The move - which raises the spectre of the order given to the England football team to give a Nazi salute in Berlin in 1938 - immediately provoked a storm of protest.

The controversial clause has been inserted into athletes’ contracts for the first time and forbids them from making any political comment about countries staging the Olympic Games.

Joke: Don’t forget that you’re in China…

Uncategorized

A man went on a business to China and wanted to buy some gifts for his kids. He went to a shop and found a nice looking CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods, he asked the shopkeeper, ‘What would happened if this does not work?’

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English that reads: ‘GUARANTEE NO SPOILT’

Feeling assured, he paid for the CD player and returns to his hotel. He tried to use the CD player after returning to the hotel but it would not even switch on.

He quickly return to the shop and asked for a refund or an exchange for another unit. When the shopkeeper refused to give either, the man points to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

The shopkeeper then said, ‘Brother, you are in China. We read from the right to the left.’

Hong Kong’s MTR goes wireless

Uncategorized

Hong Kong’s MTR (Mass Transit Railway) is going wireless for 20HK/day. Users will now have the possibility to use a WiFi internet connection in all the stations and trains. Not a revolution but a great step forward for a lot of people there!

It would be cool if all of Singapore’s trains provide the Wireless@SG connections too. The last time I checked, they aimed the bring wireless to most of the public locations for free. It’s a good initiative, but I wish they extend this feature to buses, MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and on-the-road coverages.
