I was looking at some of my friend’s Windows Live Messenger personal messages. Most people have all those inspiring quotation said by God-knows-who. It really doesn’t matter, it beats putting lame shit like some long Chinese lyrics that is so long and got cut due to Live Messenger’s character limit. And I can’t even understand half of what the Chinese quotation is about, it probably is a song, probably is a senseless lament about love. Matters little.
Some friends come and go, only true friends leave footprint etched deeply into the heart. Thanks for being one!
Nicely said.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
Quote by Lucius Annaeus Seneca that I don’t quite agree on. True luck is when opportunity comes without preparation. Hahaa…
FRIENDS: 2 (maybe +1) | CLOSE FRIENDS: 3 , identifying in process… am i such a failure in life or is it the world???
Erm… Okay, kinda strange. Let’s see some others.
Spending an inordinate amount of time romancing the impossible.
Okay.
“Silence can be a expression of love” - Chika Umino, Honey and Clover season 2, epsiode 2.
The above personal message actually has a citation longer than its quotation. It’s almost like Harvard referencing style. Where is the year dude?
“Love doesn’t make the world go round, Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” - Franklin P. Jones
Ridzuan has this. I stole the quote from him. And he, erm, borrowed it from someone.
“We know accurately only when we know little. With knowledge, doubt increases.” - Goethe
That’s my previous personal message before I stole Ridzuan’s.
Currently in beta, Windows Live Messenger 8.5 would sport a new interface. It looks much beta and cooler and has a more consistent Windows Live branding. Check out some of the screenshots that I included.

The Windows Live Messenger sign in window, version 8.0 on the left, 8.5 on the right. Windows Live Messenger 8.5 seems to have a lot more text that people don’t find useful to see. It’s probably the lawyers’ idea.

And of course, the main window. Similarly, 8.0 is on th left, 8.5 on the right. It’s all looking much cleaner and I love it when the interface designers removed the left and right border, it makes the application feel lighter.

Windows Live Messenger 8.0 is at the top and Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is at the bottom. The chat window has little changes, take a look at the Send and Search button. It’s looking better on 8.5. Previously on 8.0, it’s quite space wasting to put it on the right of the chat box.

During my installation, I was told to shut of Windows Explorer, I don’t have any Explorer windows open and in order to continue with the installation, I ended the Explorer.exe.
There really isn’t much changes. Everything works similarly, the interface change is much welcomed though.

Laziness has gotten the better of me I think. Last week I haven’t been doing a lot of my main tasks. Yeah, I’ve been working but work is proceeding rather slowly the previous week. I think I have some newsfeed addict syndrome.
At times, I find myself staring at newsfeeds even when they really is nothing much to read. I check for new news every two hours or so and I am beginning to see how much time I have wasted on just that. And I spend about half an hour a day on YouTube videos. And to check and reply emails, I spend another half an hour. And yes, chatting, it interrupts my work but people are complaining I don’t go online, but it’s bloody distracting. I shouldn’t forget about forum which gives me all information that simply don’t matter!
All the technology news gather and it almost seemed like it’s bombarding my mind or something. So yesterday night I had this thought in my mind, how important is news. How beneficial is news? Perhaps it isn’t so much.
Knowing that, I vow to cut the timings I spend on reading newsfeeds, adopting a just-let-it-go mentality. Hopefully, I can better adjust my time this way. I might post a little lesser next time. I am also developing tools to speed up publishing. I would redevelop the theme of my website coming July, it’s gotten a little old.
What happens when you put 2 chat bots to talk to each other. Never thought about that but the results are nonsensical!
Jabberwacky: How do you define life?
Alice: Life is the opposite of death.
J: So death is the absence of life?
A: Take it easy. I try not to think about such things.
J: Why not?
A: Ambiguous.
J: Yes!
J: You seem fun.
A: You think I am fun.
J: Yes ;).
A: : -) Awesome.
J: How old are you?
A: I am 9 years old.
J: Nine? I donâ??t believe you : ).
A: : -) I donâ??t have any reason to deceive you.
J: Yes, you do, youâ??re a woman.
“J: Yes. Would you like to hear a joke? / A: Sure, tell me about it. / J: Why don’t blind people skydive? / A: Perhaps it is impossible. / J: I think you lie a lot.”

I was doing a bit of online reading and I found a guide on how to annoy people using instant messaging.
Disregard any presence indicators your colleagues use such as busy or away.
Your needs are more important than anyone else’s and you know that some people regularly set their IM status to busy or away even when they’re working on unimportant stuff. Bonus: if you catch someone at the computer when she says she’s away, berate her for it. She needs to set her presence indicators according to your needs not her own.
I appear as busy at Windows Live Messenger sometimes. I really don’t mind people coming to find me online. If I really don’t want people to find me, trust me, I would have signed out completely.
When I tell people I’m busy and they keep finding me back, I feel like smashing my LCD screen. Okay, I’ll smash that person’s one instead. It’s freaking irritating. It just happened and I told the person I’m busy thrice and only to get a phone call to ask how to spell Nelly Furtado after I went offline answering every question of his.
So please respect people’s status. If they show that they are busy and you really want to talk to them, message something like, “free to chat?” or “mind sparing me five minutes of your time?”. That would most certainly help lots and save a couple of LCD screens.
By the way, Windows Live Messenger 8.0 is out get it at http://messenger.live.com/. Do get it if you’re an MSN Messenger user. Windows Live Messenger is MSN Messenger - just cooler (and a longer name).

*7 reasons why it excite me*
# Windows Live Messenger is the first major global Windows Live product to release a final version.
# The new user interface is prettier and refreshing!
# You can now sign in faster with the new Live Messenger.
# Sign in assistant make Windows Live ID (previous Microsoft Passport .NET) sign ins prettier and easier.
# You can finally edit your friend’s nicknames. No more strange nicknames such as “w3 !ive 2 dr4eM … lIsA wHy dOnT U WaNt nO MOrE1!!
:( :(”. I hate nickname changes, it’s impossible to keep track of who’s who.
# Live Messenger has never been more responsive. It really is faster now!
# You can subscribe to your contact’s address updates through Windows Live Contacts. Really cool stuff.

Meanwhile, though this is old news - Bill Gates plans to make Microsoft his part time job to focus more in Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Good for him. He plans to make the move on July 2008. I wonder how would Microsoft be like without Gates as the Chief Software Architect. Replacing Gates would be Ray Ozzie. You can read Bill Gates email to his employer below.
*Email from Bill Gates to employees*
I’ve decided that two years from now, in July 2008, I want to devote more time to the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Right now and for the next two years, my full-time job is here at Microsoft, and my part-time job remains the Foundation. Beginning in July 2008, I will switch that, to be full-time at the Foundation, while remaining involved with Microsoft as Chairman and an advisor on key development projects on a part-time basis.
On a personal note, I know that my work on global health and education issues at the Foundation would never have been possible without the enormous success of Microsoft, so I want to thank you and all of the employees past and present who have contributed so much to this company.
For these last 31 years, I’ve had the best job in the world. I’ve worked with some of the brightest and most passionate people in the world. Together, we’ve built a great company whose products have empowered people around the world.

Well, I can’t understand why’s this a good time to announce leaving the company. Many exciting products are going to be released in a year’s time. That would include the Windows Live platform of web applications, Windows Vista, Exchange, 2007 Office System and .NET Framework 3.0. So many products and he’s leaving after these stuff are being released.
