Dubai to build shapeshifting building

Is there something Dubai can’t and won’t do? Lots of architectural wonders there are being built or have been built in Dubai. Many of them looked beautiful in pictures, but this, this is a little different – this one moves:

Dubai plans ‘moving’ skyscraper

The Dynamic Tower design is made up of 80 pre-fabricated apartments which will spin independently of one another.

“It’s the first building that rotates, moves, and changes shape,” said architect David Fisher, who is Italian, at a news conference in New York.

“This building never looks the same, not once in a lifetime,” he added.

The 420-metre (1,378-foot) building’s apartments would spin a full 360 degrees, at voice command, around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located between each floor. (Source: BBC)

Go to BBC’s page for a video too. Probably a waste of money in the sense where we don’t really need a building that moves.

It redefines a ‘living thing’. My primary school taught me that living thing is anything that could move, hahaa…

How to locate a crime suspect in a building?

It’s a rule, regardless of the situation.

(from CollegeHumor)

Police checked the area and found an open door in the back of the building. An officer went inside and called out, “Marco.”

The main’s name was not Marco, detective Tim Dohr said. Instead, “the officer was trying to inject some humor into the situation.”

Police found the suspect after he responded, “Polo.”

This cheered me up a little, hahaa…

red//building

It says Red dot design museum.

Can anyone tell me what this building is? It says ‘Red dot design museum’. on the tiny words on the red building. It’s quite a unique building and really stands out despite its height, apparently due to the bold choice of bloody reds that reminds me of World War II bloodsheds. So what’s this building?

singapore//aspiration

Yesterday, I was at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (Singapore) in the city and there was this board for people to give their comments on Singapore’s development.

The following is what is typed on the white board. I am pretty sure you guys can’t see what’s written there.

*What is your aspiration for Singapore?*

Singapore has come a long way since independence.

Our city will contiune evolving, preserving the best of its heritage, whil embracing new architecture and urban design to serve the needs of future Singaporeans.

What are your dreams and visions for Singpoare? Here’s your chance to pen down your thoughts and share them with Singapore.

I love knowing what people think of Singapore. Generally, people like Singapore. We grumble occasionally on our government – yes – but still we feel quite happy in this city.

That sure is a big fan of PAP.

Singapore sucks, I really want to leave until they develop further.

I wouldn’t really agree with the person above actually. We are quite well developed already I feel. Well, maybe that person is not refering to our buildings.

Well, of course, you can’t get everybody to agree. Most comments are good ones though. I’ll post some more pictures of the comments in future perhaps.

So what is your aspiration for Singapore? Any thing you like or dislike about Singapore?

Just went back to my polytechnic yesterday. Will post more about it soon. A little busy this couple of days.

The above is the new building of School of Chemical and Life Sciences (CLS). Very nice structure although I have seen better. I love the new building. I walked around it and envied the current batch of students.
