It’s just driving me nuts, shopping malls are all playing Christmas carols and it’s really starting to get annoying. They’ve played this much of kids singing through the speakers in the toilet. I hear kids singing loud and clear in the cubicle. So annoying till it actually made the hand-dryer machine sound like music to me.
I don’t know if it’s just me, the music seemed louder too. When is Christmas going to end? To me, Christmas seemed more like the time to earn quick bucks, just tons of marketing and discounts all around.
This week I had 4 text messages sent at my sleeping hours:
- 3:41 AM
- 4:05 AM
- 4:38 AM
- 4:43 AM
Erm… I am starting to wonder if people think I don’t sleep or something. Seriously, it’s quite inconsiderate to text me at those timings. I get awoken by my phone’s vibration, I didn’t set a ring tone even. I am all fine with people texting stuff that are important.
BUT all the four messages are sent by 3 different people request me to send this and that, a reminder to bring my camera to school to lend him, and 2 others to ask for phone numbers of other people. They’re asking for favors in the wee hours of the morning and none are particularly urgent. What are they thinking? Have they even considered I might have woke up just to entertain their messages.
I usually sleep at 2 AM, so be nice and don’t message me till morning. Ahh, like they would read my blog like that.
[On a side note: My friend was telling me that liver repair starts at 12 AM and stops at 3 AM in the morning. Any comments on how true that could be?]
One of the websites (not //beconfused) I managed got hacked. My host pointed out an exploit in WordPress and said that intruders have planted a spam email sender. The WordPress installed is 2.2 and yeah I didn’t update when 2.2.1 was out. But the exploit is not among those that are fixed which is puzzling. Perhaps it’s really a new exploit, I’m still waiting for the web host to give me more details. Honestly… I am a little confused, I don’t know how to handle these stuff.
And my blog is going to max out the bandwidth again it seems. I am already using a business plan and it seems to be insufficient. My bandwidth is 40 GB per month and I am hitting the limit. I just upgraded 3 months back actually, it used to be 20 GB per month. I didn’t explain it to outgrow that quickly! I thought I would probably grow to using more than 30 GB per month probably the start of next year at the earliest. (Yes, I kinda got it charted out.) (more…)
Social networking websites are kinda driving me nuts by contantly sending me reminders that my friends have added me. I am displeased that my friends added me into those mailing list. It keeps sending me reminders to join those social networking websites like Multiply, MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, Hi5 and others. (I refuse to link them.)
I know how it works roughly, once you register, you’re given an option to input your Hotmail username and password. Then made a promise not to do anything to your passwords asides to collect your friend’s email addresses. You log in and they collect your friend’s email and mass invite them to join the social network.
It’s kinda like spam if you think about it. My friends always seem to get tricked into doing that.
Before you guys submit your username and password, think about security a little okay? You’re actually giving someone your username and password to tell him or her to sign in and take all your friend’s emails. The process is just automated, but your password can remain with the website and the webmaster can eventually log in to your account.
It is unlikely that the webmaster would check your email account. But what if the website got hacked and their databases got accessed by others. It’s just not the safest to do. On a side note, I believe the Microsoft Windows Live ID team has something in plans to build APIs for retrieving user’s contacts without having to surrender your username and password to a third party website.
Please don’t get all your friends into this type of trouble. Think twice before surrendering your username and passwords.
Well, he just wants to save some money so he built this windmill approved by the township but got sued instead. Too noisy, too big, too high, casts a shadow. Whatever. I hope this won’t discourage use of wind energy. Placing wind mills in your backyard just isn’t the right way to do things though.
Windmill Cuts Bills, but Neighbors Don’t Want to Hear It
BEACH HAVEN TERRACE, N.J., July 10 - Tired of paying as much as $340 per month for gas and electricity at the Cape Cod home here where he has lived for 18 months, Michael Mercurio erected a 35-foot windmill in his backyard last fall that helped reduce his bill to about $114 a year.
Some of his neighbors say it is also annoying. They say it is too big. They say it is too noisy. And some residents in this middle-class borough on Long Beach Island have gone to court to try to make him take it down, while the township has stilled it since winter.
The clash began in February when two of Mr. Mercurio’s neighbors filed a lawsuit in State Superior Court in Ocean County, charging that the township had acted improperly when it issued the permits that allowed him to build the weathered gray steel tower in his backyard.
The suit also says that the spinning blades throw ’strobe-like shadows’ on their property from noon to sunset.
Mary Kopp, 81, Mr. Mercurio’s next-door neighbor, thinks that alternative energy “is something we have to look into,” but that his yard is “the wrong place for a windmill like this.”
“I’ve heard it spinning,” Mr. Kubarewicz said. “It’s not like a helicopter or anything. But to live next to it? I don’t know.”

It would be cool if the corridor lights can be powered by renewable energy one day. I thought putting up some windmills or solar panels are a good idea.
My whole place’s all stuffy. My brother resorted to sleeping downstairs (we had 2 levels) and I start sleeping with an open window. I have never slept in my room with an open windows before in this house. Another first time I guess. When I sleep I want it to be real quiet and with my window open I hear clearly the sounds of vehicles zooming around.
It just occurred because our air-con went down again. Well, it didn’t go down to be exact. My aircon sort of peed onto the ground at night when it’s too cold or something. It’s an annoyance. The aircon guys would come and start doing crazy things to the aircon to fix its bladder.
But, well, it never did work. I am pretty sure that my aircon just got this uncurable disease. The aircon people came and went, came back and went back, and each time they made a fuss out of things. My father got really angry and my mother got impatient. I got the blame for choosing the aircon when we bought the house.
Each time they come to our house, they would clear the pipes and try to upkeep it here and there and we can’t switch on the aircon fo 4 days. It starts to frustrate me already.
It’s really annoying, I receive about 100 spam comments per day and I am not at all proud of it. Something ought to be done. I have Akismet which is a spam filter and to date, it has caught 55,734 spam comments. But I keep going through my moderation list so as to not miss out people’s comments.
A couple of legitimate comments does get caught once in a while. Maybe they should add spam into the school syllabus or something. We have CME in secondary school I remember. It’s Civics and Moral Education. It’s pretty outdated during my time and they spend much of the syllabus trying to tell you what type of festivals the Indians go to then discuss the technology-related issues.
I thought some time might be allocated to discuss about plagiarism, intellectual property, spam, Windows Live Messenger nudges, forwarding emails with curses and stuff. Maybe some internet related issues may be covered at school.
