Nice stuff includes Retina display which is said to be “the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPhone models. In fact, the pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. Which makes text amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp.”

It comes also with a 5-megapixel still camera and video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio. Finally a decent camera!

Finding and replace text in MySQL

I’ve been slowly moving images into Amazon S3. My main purpose to do offload images to another server. This current server is quite badly hit due to hot-linking actually. All the old images hot-linked will be broken. I am not too concern about that. I have updated all my blog posts to reflect the new image urls.

These are the MySQL find and replace commands for URL address changes:

UPDATE `wp_posts` SET `post_content` = replace(`post_content`, "'http://beconfused.com/images/", "'http://beconfused.com/new-address/")
UPDATE `wp_posts` SET `post_content` = replace(`post_content`, "\"http://beconfused.com/images/", "'http://beconfused.com/new-address/")
UPDATE `wp_posts` SET `post_content` = replace(`post_content`, "'http://www.beconfused.com/images/", "'http://beconfused.com/new-address/")
UPDATE `wp_posts` SET `post_content` = replace(`post_content`, "\"http://www.beconfused.com/images/", "'http://beconfused.com/new-address/")

Not that my WordPress posts table is called ‘wp_posts’, yours may be called something else.

The above code changes all HTML links and images to the new address. Notice it starts with a quotation, this is to ensure what is being changed is part of a HTML attribute. Single and double quotations will be changed.

You can execute it in phpMyAdmin.

Long time since I’ve actually blogged.

Firstly, my university has ended. Yeah!

And then, I started learning Japanese formally, it has been interesting.

I have also decided to follow up on my driving lessons.

Things have gotten less busy and I’ve finally have got the time to do a bit of consolidation of my websites.

This blog is going to be partially hosted in Amazon S3. I’ve tolerated lots of years of hot-linking, this time I’m partially disabling some images from hot-linking due to raising costs.

Check out Nokia’s The Rookie contest

In a new reality show The Rookie, Nokia features 12 contestants to compete for internship positions in 4 companies – Nokia, Microsoft, Standard Chartered and Zouk. The format of the reality series is much like The Apprentice. From now to July, contestants will be battling it out for a chance to win SGD5,000.

Before the contest begin, Delroy withdrew due to other personal commitments while eleven remaining contestants vie the spot of Nokia’s The Rookie. The contestants are split into 2 teams – Alpha and Bravo (which instantly reminded me of army) and their first task to given to them through Nokia E72 smartphones which features mobile email and instant messaging enable through Nokia Messaging.

And the first challenge is to do fund raising given a budget of SGD200. Each team will be represented by a project manager which they choose among themselves. Being a project manager, the contestant gets a chance to shows their leadership skills. And Team Bravo selected Ian as their project manager in this round:

Team Alpha selects Spencer who has had experience in the events field. Team Alpha deploys a fun hug and raise funds strategy which kinda worked for the women but not for the men. I felt they could have sent the women to, erm, do the hugging and let the men do something else. They’re just standing around most of the time not being loved too much.

Team Bravo just raised funds by being nice. One of their team members, Cristabel, had an injury before the contest unfortunately and she’s wheelchair bounded in this competition. That probably did help to a certain extend:

The competition ends and it was time to reveal the results delivered through the versatile Nokia E72. The contest ended with Team Alpha collecting SGD407.55.

And Team Bravo collected SGD615.20, making them the winner of the contest. As the winning team, Team Bravo gets rewarded with a one day pass to Universal Studios Singapore, one of the many rewards in participating in the Nokia The Rookie contest. All smiles, okay, mostly:

Unfortunately for Team Alpha, they didn’t win this one. It might be due to the lack of one contestant; might also be due to Singaporeans being more receptive to the hugging strategy. They then evaluate what went wrong and speculate who should be eliminated. The person to be eliminated would be sent a message through Nokia Messaging, who would it be?

The story cites anonymous insiders confirming that FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is “leaning toward” siding with the most powerful phone and cable lobbyists on a crucial decision: whether the FCC will have any authority to protect an open Internet and make it available to all. Had net neutrality not be in place in time when YouTube started, there will likely be no YouTube. Net neutrality enabled the possibility of start ups competing at leveled ground with the bigger corporations.
