I’ve got a new monitor! It’s widescreen. I chose a widescreen monitor because I feel it increases productivity for me. I was really excited about it when I brought it home yesterday. I just tore the plastic like a little kid and plug the monitor in. It works great!

My new BenQ widescreen LCD monitor.

(My new BenQ widescreen LCD monitor. Can you guess what are the things that I own?)

Would you be able to guess what are the brand of the things in this picture? Try guessing the following:

* What’s the two devices sitting atop my CPU?
* What’s the brand of my mouse?
* What programs am I running?
* The brands of my CD-ROM, CD-RW and DVD-RW drives. You’re an absolute nerd if you get that right.

Any guesses?

The letter e.

  2. i only know that the thing that’s blue and black is probably a linksys wireless router. And maybe one of the programs is Flash (the timeline gives it away :P ) and the other is dreamweaver?
the rest i have no idea, but you should include a high res version or link to the high res on flickr so that we don’t have to burn our retinas squinting lol

  3. @pketh: you forgot the speakers

  4. Yes, it’s Flash. Both pketh and cockroach got that right. I didn’t run Dreamweaver though. That’s indeed a linksys wireless router.

I didn’t have a high resolution image because it would be too easy, hahaa…

The program I am running is Flash indeed and the dialog box is the Actions panel. ;)

  6. pketh: It does kinda look like that, hahaa… I don’t want people to guess my speakers because it doesn’t really have a brand. I mean, it does, but I never heard of the brand before! It’s a Taiwanese brand and is quite cheap.

  7. Mr Dew: Oh come on, be fair, what is the brand of your speakers? O:-)

  8. It’s not written anywhere! You got me in a fix. I have no idea too. There is a logo there though, it’s a alphabet ‘e’ in italics. I think it probably stand for Eagle or something. I can’t remember.

  13. Mr Dew: WHy not using a stereo? Many people own a HIFI stereo and it sounds soo much nicer

  14. What do you mean?

by Mr. Dew (Jun 30, 2006 at 1 AM)
  15. a stereo. no boxes. but a stereo. like this: http://www.rotel.com/images/portal-image.jpg

  16. I see. I don’t really know how to fix it up to my computer. Does it use the stereo’s auxillary ports or something? I seen some that support USB ports and don’t know what they’re about. These stuff aren’t popular in Singapore.

  17. Mr Dew: you just connect the soundcard - the normal green connector (do not use the black one if you have one - that’s for headphones!) with an aappropriate cable to the audio in connectors (left/right) of your stereo. Either AUX or CD or Phono. But please notice that if your stereo has more than 1 audio in, do not use the Phono one, since the Phono one is most likely with sound boost, and you need one without.
It’s a thing that costs a few bucks and requests 5 minutes of your time.

Please refer to the stereo’s manual if you find that you should be on the sure side :) but it’s very unlikely that you can damage something

  18. I’ll try that next time, perhaps after my speakers aren’t working for me. I don’t have a stereo though. I seen some of those with USB ports, do you know what they do?

by Mr. Dew (Jun 30, 2006 at 3 PM)
  19. @Mr Dew: As far as I know you can just connect external devices with that but more exactly stuff I do not know.
    maybe google :)

You are welcome. If you ever buy a stereo you now know how to connect it! 8-)

  20. I was thinking the same, hahaa… I think buying speakers for computers has its advantage though. Most hifi stereos are still more expensive than the computer speakers.

  21. [...] At first I thought it’s my BenQ monitor that went wrong. I plugged the monitor into the lap top and everything looked fine. I am able to extend the laptop desktop to the monitor. So it means the culprit is probably my graphics card. [...]
