Remember the case of the Raffles Junior College student that was captured on video with a classmate’s mobile phone? Here is a story that is similar - they both use mobile sets to capture their teacher’s behaviors.

Angry teacher caught on mobile

A high school student at Brick Township High School in New Jersey used a video camera phone to record his teacher screaming at kids. The teacher wanted the kids to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance, but one kid refused to, so the teacher pulled the kid’s seat out from under him.

The kid who brought the camera phone in was hoping to catch his teacher doing something awful enough to get him fired. As it turns out, the kid was suspended and the teacher has gotten off scotch free.

Teacher freaks out about National Anthem, with Video

This happened at Brick Township High School in Jersey.

New Jersey School Board is considering ban of cell phones (due to the video) in its schools.

The student who recorded the affair, Corey Zappo, has been suspended for 10 days.

The teacher has faced no discipline and no action is being taken.

Schools Superintendent Thomas L. Seidenberger issued a statement that “not all details cited on the Internet regarding this incident are factual.” The statement did not elaborate.

“I don’t want to hear a sound! Not a sound! Morning exercises will come on, you will stand, you will stand quietly, you will pay attention! Any Questions!?…Now stand up and keep your mouths shut!” Students stood up as the national anthem began playing.

In the middle of the anthem, Mantel walked over to Jay and demanded that he stand up. Jay silently refused, and Mantel yelled again, “Stand up!”. Jay then said “I don’t have to stand up”. To which Mantel insisted “You have to stand.” Jay said “No I don’t”. Mantel then reached over and pulled Jay’s chair out from under him. Jay responded to Mantel’s outrageous behavior by asking him “Are you serious?”, to which he yelled “I am damn well serious.”

You can download the video (WMV) using HTTP (alternate URI) or BitTorrent (made by Eduardo).

More than a year ago, a student from Raffles Junior College used his mobile phone camera to capture a video of his classmate getting scolded by the General Paper teacher. He captured his teacher tearing the work of a student and calling his classmate a ’sly crafty old rat’.

Raffles Junior College is one of Singapore’s most recognized junior college and it’s basically where all the smart people go to. The video was distributed around the internet and I got hold of a copy of it.

There you go, I tore the paper. You're a sly craft old rat!

This is a rather controversial issue in Singapore. Prior to this incident, there is no complaints (at least not of my knowledge) or video camera features in phones. Some people side the boy who filmed the video because he revealed the situation in his school (and afterwhich the school received bad publicity). Others believed the boy should be severely dealt with as filming others is an invasion of privacy.

As for me, I just sit back and relax and watch the whole situation plays out. I don’t know what sort of punishment the boy received but I believed he apologized. Oh yes, the video, I know you want to catch the video, I uploaded it to my site ready for you download. You got to hear the vocabulary used by the teacher.

  1. I find that there is nothing wrong with what the RJC teacher had done.
What was the society discussing on then? About tearing paper? Who cares about hardcopy we have the soft copy.

  2. Did I hear the teacher say “all the good PRC students have never disappointed me”? The student’s a PRC is it? Was I mistaken…There was this whole PRC vs local students thing more recently…

  3. dgj: There’s nothing much that went wrong actually. But if I were to pinpoint a part of the movie that gone wrong, it is probably the tearing of the paper and the hurtful words.

  4. Serene: I don’t remember “all the good PRC students have never disappointed me” but anyway, the teacher mentioned good people’s republic of china students - since she says they are good, they shouldn’t disappoint anyway.

You’re right. There has been lots of these debates of getting people from China to come to Singapore. Is such foreign talent really good for the economy? Would it kill our citizens a chance for getting a job placing? These are the questions that are constantly in our minds. I have nothing against Chinese (people from China) people, but I want my job too. I guess I really got to work hard to fight with these people.

  5. On the RJC drama: Hmmm … could it be PMS? Or maybe she didn’t get enough the previous night?

  6. Event Horizon: hahaa, too bad for her then because that’s a costly mistake. She’s really fierce in the video clip though.

  8. milky: I didn’t know what made her so mad too. I think she’s really fierce and she certainly brought back the memories I had in primary school. When I was that video, I was relieved that I went to polytechnic instead of junior college, hahaa..

  9. The American teacher was wrong for ordering the students to stand and would be reprimanded for it. Since the student secretly took a video the teacher caught a break and the school made an example of the student.

To an American, the RJC teacher isn’t doing much wrong. I couldn’t understand much of what she was saying, but I hope the student got the point.

  10. Jessica: The only wrong thing she did is to piss the student so much that he took a video clip of her scolding someone else (quite badly too). Perhaps it’s just the tearing the paper. That act has been targeted, some people says that that teacher should not be tearing the student’s work.
