I think she just got nervous and choked, which doesn't mean she's stupid. Good thing for her that Americans don't watch beauty pagents anymore, but too bad it's all over the Internet for people to see :(.

The results of the polls seem dubious to me. Who knows if the samples were representative of a country of 300 million? Watching Oprah or Comedy Central have nothing to do with locating a country on a map, so I doubt that's why people don't know if those poll results are true. Sometime tells me that if you've watched the local and national news you're probably part of the four fiths that can located the US on a world map.

I've watched American weather reports all my life and they don't just exclude other countries, especially when there's a hurricane or some other kind of storm in nearby countries that could affect local weather.

If she is a student of any public school, or has been a student since the "required state testing", she, or any other student, wouldn't know the answer if it wasn't on the "test". The schools now only teach the students how to pass "the" test. Our school district doesn't even have text books! My oldest daughter just graduated college, and her first year, she called me crying, because her school did not teach anything other than the TAKS test. (We are from Texas). She struggled for 4 1/2 years, but finally graduated. I have been upset over the schools curriculum, and letters to the state board of education have gone unanswered for several years. This would be my youngest child's 4th year of elementary school, and I have decided, after giving the elementary school enough chances to correct itself, she will be home schooled from now on. I have searched several curriculums, and have found the A Beka system teaches geography, so she WILL know how to find the US on a map or globe! She will also learn all the states, their capitals, our presidents, their wives, the government and judicial systems, and I could not be happier! So sorry for Miss South Carolina. She is a beautiful young woman and hopefully, after this, she will make better education her new "platform" and our children will start to learn again.

Bless her heart! She didn't have a clue of the question that was asked of her. I think she was so nervous she couldn't listen to the question asked. She also thought she was getting another question by the answer she gave, which had nothing to do with Americans helping other countries!
