I have been working in IT on mostly Microsoft for 4 years. I have also just tried Ubuntu (SUSE first and then UBUNTU) I found the GUI really nice an neat and enjoyd learning a different way of doing things. I was wondering if it was me who is so used to Microsoft way or if it was UBUNTU being less user friendly on installing software. I had to get my head around the conecpt of repositories and a menu of available software. I also struggled to get wireless working. I will play some more and wait before i make a decision. Many things I like but many things that are not quite Microsoft.Ant

I do agree with almost everything. Its a desktop manager.

Well, if you really want good looks and animations, you can try Beryl. Try Kubuntu, Ubuntu's smaller brother. You get all the Ubuntu features you like but with a KDE flavor. It looks and acts more like Windows. Try it, you'll like it.

Want more of a Win feel to the desktop? Try Kubuntu, Ubuntu’s smaller brother. As a digital music store I honestly think people are better off without it :) To point you to a player, try banshee and/or amarok. Gimp is definitely not photoshop, albeit it does a lot of simpler stuff. I only do fairly simple photo processing and color corrections, so I never hit anything gimp cannot do for me (actually I never used photoshop, so maybe I am missing something, but it is too expensive to try). I think openoffice is a reasonable replacement for MS office. What functionality of MS office are you missing? Windows Live Messanger? Is that on MSN IM network? If so, you should be able to connect to it using Pigin universal IM client.

Well, there are a few players out there which are comparable with iTunes as far as organizing and listening to music goes. Take a look at Ubuntu 4.10 then 7.04 ad see how far they've come. And CNR functionality is just around the corner for downloads more like Windows. Linux Mint also offers mintInstall which is similar to CNR. As far as graphical appearance, many other options are available that can make Linux look like about anything you want including Mac and Windows.

Considering that Ubuntu has only been around about 3 years…..
