The GST hike is coming on July 1, 2007. Are you guys prepared? I noticed a lot of people rushing to snap up items recently.
I’m going to pay my school fees before July 1 too. My school fees is about SG$7000 and if I were to pay now, I get to ‘enjoy’ the limited time 5% GST. Any longer will amount to SG$140 extra due to the 2% GST increase. And SG$140 is quite a lot of money.
SG$140 can get me:
- 1 tennis racket
- 8 novels that I will take 8 years reading
- Half a year of web hosting for //beconfused
- 2 thick and useful computer books
- 1 pretty nice bicycle
- 1 year of Newsweek magazine
- An absolutely fabulous Brazilian buffet for 2
I’ll probably spend them buying 2 really thick and useful computer books that I have been eyeing for a while. Of course, the web hosting has to continue. My Newsweek magazine too. I just order Newsweek because it’s good to bring around. I’ll forget about the novels I guess. And the Brazilian buffet increases my blood pressure.
