Is anybody using pMachine ExpressionEngine Core? ExpressionEngine is a content management system that does weblogging quite well. I am not intending to migrate from WordPress to ExpressionEngine.

I have some questions for you guys.

I am concern about the load of using ExpressionEngine. I am afraid that ExpressionEngine may overload a shared server. If you’re using ExpressionEngine, could you recommend me a web hosting provider? I am aware pMachine offers hosting, but I am looking for more competive pricings to compare.

ExpressionEngine seems very flexible. I love the tags, but I am troubled with user management. Frankly speaking, the whole interface seem to be a labyrinth. The next set of questions are simple – can I manage users using the Core versions to limit which weblog they can use. Also, is there a maximum user limit? Does each of the author have a simple page?

Does anyone have the .htaccess file to remove the ‘index.php’ from the web address that works? I tried several but it gives me errors.

Is there anything in ExpressionEngine Commercial or Personal that you wish it would be in ExpressionEngine Core?

Finally, what’s your experience with using ExpressionEngine Core?

Do comment if you know anything.

  1. do you know hailey xie at haxi.org? She used it for a long while so she’ll probably have lots to say (dunno if she still does though)

  3. Why don’t you take your questioms to the EE forums? Best chance to get an answer there. If you’re stillinterested, here’s a short rundown:

    > I am afraid that ExpressionEngine may overload a shared server.

I am using it on a shared server with no problems. If you’re looking for “competitve pricing”, however, my host will not be for you.

    > Frankly speaking, the whole interface seem to be a labyrinth.

Takes some getting used to, but is not that difficult in the long run.

Yes. But since the member module is missing, you’ll have to register member manually via the backend, and can’t have them signing up themselves.

    > Also, is there a maximum user limit?

    No.

So to speak. You can whip certainly whip something up.

The wiki has a version that works very well.

The query module. But I am using the Full version most of the time.
