Once again, the nation’s birthday is coming. It didn’t feel so to me until I look at the calendar and realize how near to August it is from today. There wasn’t much of this national day atmosphere for me.

In fact, it seemed rather dull actually. Perhaps it has always been this way.

Peer pressure is used to get people to put on their flags. The thing about Singaporeans is that we all are lazy people. The flag we used last year is always gone, perhaps it took on the role of the dinner table cloth. I don’t know and I don’t care. But our government always bought us new flags every year.

This year, they sent our family another flag again. I took the flat into my house and laid it on the ground. I then took a photograph of it and rolled it up and place it in my box – well, we’re moving so…

They then have a ceremony and prayed hard that the residents would put them out. I’m just too lazy frankly speaking.

The previous year, we placed this national day flag for like – I don’t know – four month? Well, anyway, someone paid a visit to us and informed us to take down the flag. Just when you thought putting up the flag was hard, it’s actually the taking down part that is harding you know. So I just thought of leaving it there since there’s always a national day next year and I don’t have to put the flag again for hopefully another decade.

Well of course, that guy who visited us didn’t find much brilliance in my idea of course. He seemed rather upset and I don’t know why. You know, those guys should just shut up and not hang their flags or something.

Anyway, this year we aren’t going to hang any. Perhaps a decade later. Remind me a decade later just in case I forget.
