Recently I have been very frustrated with incomplete instructions, so let me rant a while… Some people have been calling us to request favors. We don’t mind entertaining favors actually. As long as it is not too hard to do and the person doesn’t make it sounds demanding.
But in army, it’s a totally different case. Almost every request sounds like a demand and that is enough to piss me off. And the worst part is that most people who ask for favors are asking on behalf of their commanders or superiors! And the whole request sounded wrong and at worst, didn’t even address the problem at all.
We are a technical helpdesk sometimes. The worst questions are about passwords, where people call to ask what’s the password. My straight answer is that I don’t know. It’s driving me crazy. I can’t remember a bunch of passwords. I am already there like, “look, I click on the ‘Forget Password’ button more than you ask for passwords. I just don’t remember them at all!” I am quite sure that if I were to set a temporary password for a computer, it’s always “password” or that I disabled a password. But someone always change our passwords and there is pretty much no way to solve this problem.
The next problem is people asking about emailing. The other day someone just called to demand us to add email address to the computer. And I was there totally confused. And he is confused too. We’re all confused.
Me: You mean you can’t check your mail?
Him: No, I can’t connect.
Me: What email do you want me to add exactly?
Him: Our emails.
Me: So there’s many email address like an address book?
Him: No, just our email addresses.
Me: Okay… And what’s the addresses you want me to add?
Him: You don’t have _meh_?
Me: No.
Him: You find for me?
Me: But I don’t even know what email address you want.
Him: Just add any email _lar_…
Me: What email is that?
Him: Can find for me?
I swear I almost screamed the ‘f’ word here. I don’t even know what he wants. He just call again and says he needs it urgently and I have to find the emails for him. I just throw it to another person to do. It’s lame. I don’t think that guy would ever figure out about the emails anyway. These people are driving me crazy.

by sky (Jul 12, 2006 at 1 PM)Yes, but if instructions are not properly given, we can just don’t do for them. It’s really not a big deal. No wonder army does things so slow always, hahaa…
by Mr. Dew (Jul 13, 2006 at 7 AM)Heheh, I know this, welcome to the computer business!
by Nafcom (Jul 14, 2006 at 5 AM)oh btw, when you throw it to another person to do… what happened to this case? quite interesting to know what the person actually wanted. did you know what happened in the end?
by sky (Jul 14, 2006 at 1 PM)Nafcom: Yeah, it’s amazing what people say sometimes.
sky: Nothing! The next guy pushed it away and finally someone who know took over and added the email address. Oh by the way, it’s not Outlook account, it’s not an address book even. It’s another application that I never heard of! I heard it’s for GPRS or something. I didn’t even know you need an email to be keyed inside a GPRS client…
