Some uni's are well regarded in certain areas and no so well in others. I do agree though if you can get into one of the state named universities you will be doing well. I heard of the Group of Eight and University of Queensland is one of them. I was thinking of going there to get a computing related degree and I heard Queenslands University of Technology is a good choice too. I include University of South Australia into my choice since it offers courses that fits what I want. I am most in favor of University of Queensland actually. There are lots of them in Australia. As a general guide, you should go for state universities (though there are good ones which are not state universities). So how do you identify if it is a state university? Simple, see if the name of the State is in the name of the university itself. It's a good indication. Apart from state universities, there is an alliance of aussie universities called Group of Eight http://www.go8.edu.au Those in that alliance are quite good as well. Note that there are very commercialised aussie universities (e.g. Monash, RMIT) which you should avoid. As for budgeting, you should prepare S$50k (sch fees, living, accommodation) for every year you will spend in Australia on-campus. Yup, Sydney and Melb are the most expensive places in Australia. A plastic bottle of Coca-cola in Sydney can cost around S$3. Lastly, check out http://www.idp.com/singapore/ before deciding on any aussie courses.
