picasa//installation

Uncategorized

I’ve just tried Google’s Picasa application. Tried installing it into my computer. I realized that the it tries to set up my default search engine too.

Picasa tries to set all sorts of defaults in your setup.

(Picasa tries to set all sorts of defaults in your setup.)

My default search engine is current Live and I don’t plan to change it actually.

At the installation screen, I unchecked every single check box. All I want is a photo management software. Picasa is an excellent tool. I’ve been using it for quite a while now. My only complaint is the installation part.

You can download Picasa from Google.

It seems like Google is trying to gain more share in the search market currently. They’ve been more aggressive recently. Probably feeling threatened by Yahoo! and Live. Yahoo! has been making strategic acquisitions and Live is releasing tools and features so fast it’s hard to catch up.

Possibly related:

  1. Microsoft wants to acquire Yahoo!
  2. amazon//live
  3. blog//search

  1. I keep a large distance to Yahoo and GMail and even MSN, and this is one of the reasons!

  2. Google used not to be so aggresive. I guess the search engine war is up. Even MSN is getting more into it. Microsoft always gives me the feeling that don’t really care much about MSN because it’s not their core business.

  3. At least it gives you a choice. Some programs don’t. Just uncheck those you don’t need.

  4. Event Horizon: I always take note of these checkboxes just in case they try to install something extra that I don’t want. I remember you have to installed some useless stuff if you install AIM. Very bad business practise.

  5. Mr Dew: Ah, before I forget it: The ICQ Toolbar is useful because it includes a RSS reader which MSIE 6 does not have.

Yes, being aggressive is not good, so I better stay with ICQ and Skype alone! :)

  6. I don’t really use IE as much as I use Opera. Anyway, I don’t read newsfeeds in IE too. So it’s not really useful.
