The election polls are closed and I think those poor civil servants are probably doing the counting right now.
I wonder how would the results be like. People’s Action Party (PAP) is extremely likely to be back in the parliament as the majority. This time the elections is rather exciting.
Key places to take note would be:
* Potong Pasir (SMC), where Chiam See Tong from Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) is contesting against PAP’s Sitoh Yih Pin. As of the 2001 elections, Sitoh Yih Pin lost with 47.57% people voting for him. The rest voted for Chiam in the two-party contest. Would Chiam, a favorite in the SMC, be able to win another round? Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is there is help garner support for Sitoh.
* Aljunied (GRC), where James Gomez is at. It’s just interesting to see how the votes would fare and what the Workers’ Party (WP) would say if they lose.
* Hougang (SMC), where Eric Low Siak Meng from PAP lost with 45.02% vote. Can he capture Hougang from rival Low Thia Khiang (WP) this time round is a once-again two-party contest?
* Ang Mo Kio (GRC), where the young WP politicians attempts to go against PAP’s arsernal of – okay, not really – PAP’s Lee Hsien Loong, the current prime minister of Singapore. If WP were to win in this GRC, it would mean that our prime minister would lose a seat in the parliament – in other words, he would have to stand. Described as a suicide team, WP is unlikely to win in this contest. WP however added that a suicide team is better than one that gives up before a fight.
* Choa Chu Kang (SMC), where SDA’s Steve Chia competes with Gan Kim Yong (PAP). Previously, Chia competed with Low Seow Chay (PAP) and lost by getting 34.66% of the votes in a two-party contest. Chia may win this round if he tries hard enough. I’m interested in Chia after his controversial scandal involving his wife discovering topless photographs of their maid in the Recycle Bin. Though no offense is commit since the maid is not forced, it brought Chia’s name down.
The results would be out soon.

[...] I kinda expect Steve Chia (SDA) to not win this one with the scandals and the plans of PAP. But at the same time, he is contesting against Gan Kim Yong who wasn’t competing in Chao Chu Kang the previous time. So I thought, Chia may still win. But he did not. [...]
