New product development for AIBO has already been ceased, and production is targeted to stop by the end of fiscal year 2005. However after-sales support will continue. There will also be no new development for QRIO. R&D in the AI area which was developed in the AIBO and QRIO businesses will continue and will be deployed in a broad range of consumer electronic products.

When Sony AIBO was released, it brought the whole idea of a robot close to reality. It is perhaps the world most recognized robot asides those found in Star Wars. It is inspiring to many and is perhaps one of the things that really got me interested in Japan – they’ve got the cool stuff. Sadly the AIBO won’t be around anymore.
