Okay, I’m just wondering about this. Actually I’ve been thinking about this on several occasions. It’s amazing how boredom can drive a man to think.
You know this mosquito fogging vehicles that comes around and spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes? Well, guess what, they affect the bees too.
I remember that day to be a cloudy one – I mean it used to be quite sunny then they start to spray the mosquito thingy and everything looks cloudy and foggy to me. And so it was sprayed. It affected the birds, the mosquitoes, the bees and Mr. Dew.
And after a while, all the bees would start flying into the rooms where we are staying. I hate bees. I like the honey they produce but I much prefer if they can’t fly actually. Which is when the mosquito spray thing comes in – it somehow immobilizes the bees after a while.
So there is this bee right beside my bed the other day. It was just right there and I was lying on my bed reading the sweet Emma Watson from the Harry Potter movie. [By the way, my friend tore the Emma Watson page of my magazine and has since set up an altar to worship her in his cupboard.] I wasn’t pleased, I can’t read my magazine which the noisy bee buzzing and buzzing.
I complained to a friend and announced that I am going to step on the -poor- bee. I place my foot above the bee and gotten ready. Then there was disapproval.
“If you kill the bee, all the other bees will sting you,” they adviced.
I stopped, moved my leg away.
“But why? How would the bees know?” I questioned.
One fellow looked at me and say, “you never heard of this before?”
No, I haven’t. I haven’t heard before the advice of not killing bees. I let the bee on unwillingly and return to my Emma Watson page. I stared at the bee angrily and it buzzed away.
But it eventually returned and start to buzz again. It’s just amazingly annoying. I walked towards the bee and placed my foot right above the bee on the floor. I hesitated. Should I or should I not kill the bee? I stared at the bee while deciding its fate.
I looked around my room and noticed no one was looking at the bed. I place my right foot down firmly on the bee and I give it a slight twist to kill the bee fully.
And I prayed, “Lord, may you redirect the bees to their bee hives.”
So my question is… True or false – bees take revenge when their comrades got killed. How true is that? [I didn't get stung and proceed to kill bees on a every-week basis currently.]

The stinger’s injection of apitoxin into the victim is accompanied by the release of alarm pheromones, a process which is only accelerated if the bee is fatally injured. Release of alarm pheromones near a hive or swarm may attract other bees to the location, where they will likewise exhibit defensive behaviors until there is no longer a threat (typically because the victim has either fled or been killed).
(Alarm pheromones have been characterized as having a “dirty socks” smell, which is why amateur beekeepers will often bathe and change into clean clothes before working a hive.)

by viv (Nov 27, 2005 at 10 AM)I have heard of that before, but I think it only happens when you attack a bee right in front of its comrades. That basically spells war haha.
by Milky (Nov 28, 2005 at 1 AM)I though only you hit the bee hive…
by cockroach//è??è?? (Nov 28, 2005 at 2 PM)Bees are horrible little creatures.Just spray them with hair spray-the unscented kind with the extra hold stuff in it. Their wings will freeze and then you can just step on them. You can get a couple of bees at a time this way.
Okay,back to work!

Thanks for the information, viv.
I don’t think they’ll come after me. Their comrades didn’t spot me stepping a fellow bee.
I just step the bees as I walk. I actually stepped more than 50 in a day I believe. They did fogging and all the bees come into the buildings. There are lots of bees struggling at the lobby area and I step them all while chatting with my girlfriend on the cellphone, hehee
