Over 1,500 calls regarding mosquito breeding locations in just a few days!
*Over 1,500 calls to new anti-mozzie hotline*
A hotline for callers to report mosquito breeding had received 1,573 by 7 pm yesterday, after being announced on Tuesday.
The number, manned round the clock by the National Environment Agency (NEA), was set up as the one-stop number for the public to alert the authorities to breeding sites.
Environment and Water Resources Minister Yaacob Ibrahim yesterday said the NEA would try to “close the loop within 24 hours”. He also appealed to people to “use the hotline wisely.”
Dr. Yaacob said one caller asked NEA officers to remove a pail of water from his neighbour’s house.
Yes, we have an anti-mosquito line. It is just started recently only. There are too many dengue fever cases around and the public awareness for mosquito breeding grounds is heightened.
There was once I thought I have dengue fever actually. That was like 2 months ago. During which, I had this fever, headache, rashes, feeling nauseous and stuff. It’s not a good feeling basically. And I immediately linked it to dengue fever as much as my knowledge can bring me.
I did not go and see a doctor in the end as I am in camp and the headache was just so bad I don’t want to go to the medical center which is basically an environment that would worsen your headache. My fever is gone after a day and so is my headache. The nauseous thingy continued for another 2 days I think. And the rashes continued for about a week.
I don’t think that I gotten dengue fever now. And if I really did, I probably recovered.
Anyway, if you spot any mosquito breeding place in Singapore that you wish to alert the authorities, you can call 1800-X-DENGUE (1800-933-6483) or send them a kind note at dengue@nea.gov.sg.
