Army terminology of the week

Reveille – This is just the term to mean ‘wake up’. In the my place, the reveille is half past five in the morning which is quite early for me, I wake up at around eight at home.

In the army, some people wake up earlier to brush their teeth and get ready most of the time. I do that too. I tend to take a long time to prepare in the morning. My motion is very slow and I walk around at the speed of a 1 km/hr zombie.

  3. How to get up, eat breakfast and get ready for work in 5 mins!

  1. LOL!

    1 km/h! A snail is faster!

5:30 AM was normal for me when I went to school, very long time ago!

  2. If you refer to my comments b4 you started NS, i did mention that army has many jargons for common things/events. Yup, reveille is certainly one of those.

  3. Nafcom: I just walk so slowly in the morning while I see people rushing here and there. I have the habit to brush thing after I eat breakfast. I know some people thing it’s horrible, but I think it’s just fine.

viv: Yup, there are still a lot more strange terms. I am learning them slowly.

  4. Mr Dew: Bruth teeths after breakfast? A normal thing!

  5. Nafcom: Is that so? Some of my friends called that disgusting. I don’t give a damn though. I just like to brush teeth after breakfast, lol

  6. I even have to, I take medicine and if I do not brush the teeth afterwards (which consists of using water in mouth) then I could end up in having fungi in my mouth caused by the medicine. (it’s some bronchia medicine).

And all my family does it this way, too. do not understand why it’s disgusting. dentists over here always tell everybody how important it is!

  7. Nafcom: I see, most people in Singapore (or perhaps that’s just my friends) think that brushing teeth should be done before breakfast. I am the only one that did that after breakfast. I’m just too lazy to brush too early in the morning and only truly get awake after I drink something warm during breakfast. I don’t think of brushing teeth before or after breakfast unhygienic or what. It’s quite the same to me. The common argument is that I am consuming food when my mouth is unclean because I didn’t brush it. I don’t have much to argue back I suppose. So long as you brush your teeth, it’s good habit already. The guys in the army still find my habit unclean though, but who cares.

  8. Mr Dew:
So people from Germany do it differently from people from Singapore.
    I see it this way:
During night, the average human doesn’t eat anything, so not much harm for the bacteria level one one’s mouth. But when I brush my teeth before breakfast, fine, _BUT_ then you have the bacteria from the breakfast, which can cause holes within 15 minutes! (yup, that is no joke, but sciencetifically proven!), because next time you brush teeth is only mid-day or evening!.

The thing is: dentists say 2 times a day, as a child you learn 3 times a day. and it’s really better for your teeth to be cleaned after the meal bacteria, i.e. after you are finished with eating than before.

  9. Nafcom: I didn’t know about that. Hmmmp… I’ll start cleaning my teeth more often. I think it’s yellowish… Maybe I’ll get those mild whitening toothpaste. I hope my teeth will be white soon.

  10. @Mr Dew: Oh yellow doesn’t matter. Since I have got a new dentist in 2004, they recommended getting a Professional Tooth Cleaning.
Costs 60 â?¬ per session each, but my whole famliy does it (except grandparents). Has the advantage that I just got around a periodontosis. (my mother got not around that :( ). So I am thankful for that movement to make Professional Tooth Cleanings, over here.

The 60 â?¬ each half a year are well invisted! :)

It’s incredible how much the teeth related medicine improved within the recent 10 years!

  11. How cheap is that actually? 60 pence?

by Mr. Dew (Jul 20, 2005 at 5 PM)
  12. @Mr Dew: â?¬ = Euro
    comes close to USD. ($).
Not that cheap actually, but worth it! Saves you from a lot of pain later!

  13. Nafcom: I see, I plan to go to the dentist this year actually. I am going to a government one, it is free I think.

by Mr. Dew (Jul 28, 2005 at 5 PM)
  14. Mr Dew: Oh going to the dentist is free, your health insurance pays. but they dot pay stuff that is preventing problems (which is stupid).
They only pay if you already have periodontosis, so when it is too late! Also they pay only few for denture, if you are lucky, the half of what it would cost.

by Nafcom (Jul 28, 2005 at 10 PM)
  15. Nafcom: I think it is free for me. Dentist check ups are free in government polyclinics if you are serving national service I believe. Polyclinic is just this building that houses a lot of general practioners and some dentists, hahaa…

  16. Mr Dew: That is good to know :)
White teeth for army supporters. heheh

  17. [...] There was this once in camp when my platoon-mate and I chatted till like 5 and were both really really tired. We were talking about careers and studying opportunities. And the next day we supposed to wake up at 8 and go for a first parade. Yes, we suppose to reveille at half past five but we didn’t. We woke at half past seven but collaspe back onto our horrible spring beds as if we slept late at 5. Oh yea, we did sleep at 5. [...]
