I heard that in Singapore, the price of watching the movies has rose again. It used to be SG$8.50 for the weekends. I tend to watch movies on the weekends because most people just ain’t free on the weekdays. Now that I am in the army, I am not really free on the weekends too!

Anyway, the movie price ticket has increased to SG$9.50 for weekends I heard. I also read somewhere that in Singapore, the number of people watching movies are actually increasing.

How can the number of people watching movies in the cinemas actually be increasing?! The movie tickets are more and more expensive, the people always claim to be poor so who the hell contributed to the increase in movie ticketing price that currently disallow me to watch a weekend film?

It’s probably the couples. Seriously, movie entertainment is one of the few things that uncreative couples thought up of. It’s always the scenario of a guy and a girl in the cinema, watching a horror show. The girls wants to watch the horror show and goes with the guy. The guy acts tough but probably didn’t watch the film at all since it wouldn’t be macho if he screams. The girls watches and hug the guys hand tightly.

Oh come’on, I know everyone has this scene embedded in their minds. I never believe this would work though. I don’t think I’ll try this out. I probably won’t watch a horror film.

I can tell you quite truthfully that I will be scared in horror films. I am not a believer of ghost. But when I see them in film, coupled with the sound effects, I get terrified in the cinemas. Also, I hate the idea of paying movie to scare myself, the whole idea doesn’t seem worth it to me. Cheap thrill.

Perhaps I’ll watch it if the ticket is really cheap – like 10 cents. I’ll consider. At SG$9.50 ticket price on weekends, I’ll be extremely selective with the films I watch. I’ll watch only the blockbusters I guess.

But, dear Singaporeans, ever heard of DVD rentals? Our DVD Rentals are charging crazy prices! SG$4 per DVD? That’s too expensive.

  2. Calyx: No copyrights? You mean DVD Rentals? I think they are copyrighted materials that can be rented. I’m not sure about the copyright part. But I would assume that if I rent a DVD from the DVD shop, I am not voliating any copyright law.

  3. erm, guess they expect us to borrow license to copy the DVD when they rent to us. So, that’s why we need our ID or contact no. plus 4 bucks when we rent.

  4. I didn’t know the cinema and its stereotype connected with it, is the same everywhere :D

DVD Rentals: I know 2 kinds: those labeled with “Not for rental, only for private usage” and those labeled with “For renatal only”.
