So one of my favorite Japanese artists sang an English song. However, I’m not too eager to support him. He is known as Gackt, full name [so he claims..] is Camui M. S. Gackt (ç¥?? 楽æ??, Kamui Gakuto). He claims his birthday to be July 4, 1540, that makes him over 400 years old. He must be thinking that I’m a 3-year-old to believe him.
Gackt was part of Malice Mizer before he went solo. His shoe size is 25.5 cm, 10 inches or size 8. [What the hell am I thinking to give shoe sizes..] So anyway, Gackt sang an English song. In _Engrish_ to be exact.
Japanese pronounces English with much difficult, so speaking in English is quite a problem for them and now Gackt sang the entire song in English, correction, _Engrish_. Pronunciation problems are arose from different stress in vowels etc.
I included a portion of Gackt’s song “To feel the Fire” and the lyrics for that portion. “To feel the Fire” is a song written by Stevie Wonder for a Kirin beverage commercial called “Fire”. [Okay, "Fire" supposed to be some coffee brand..]
The lyric part with the italicized squared parenthesis [like this] is the actual lyrics. Those without are just lyric that sounded like what Gacktis singing.
I have encoded 1min 30sec sample in WMA file proprietary (Windows Media Audio 9; 32 kbps, 32 kHz, stereo 2-pass CBR) for you people. This is the highest quality I encoded so far, it’s 32 kHz too! [Previously was 16]
Download the sample from here (374 KB). [Download it quick, as I'll remove it on February 02.]
To build a fire
[To feel a fire]
’cause when I look inside my yard and I tell that toast to me
['cause when I look inside my heart and I tell the truth to me]
Loudly to my zoo I come, we stop upon the sea
[Loud and clear my soul cries out with total honesty]
I need the fire, fire, fire to keep me warm
[I need the fire, fire, fire to keep me warm]
I’ve got to build a fire
[I've got to feel the fire]Your smiling face, me enough to warm a sign
[My smiling face, with laughter on the side]
You say “no duh”, I get butt-sore every night
[You'd say no doubt I get passion every night]
But if you don’t die, your underwater dive
[But if in our bed your arms don't hold me tight]
Means you leave much to be desired
[Means it leaves much to be desired]’cause when I look inside my eye and I tell the two’s too mean
['cause when I look inside my heart and I tell the truth to me]
Loud and cold my soul I come with stuff that rhymes with ‘C’
[Loud and clear my soul cries out with total honesty]
I need the fire, fire, fire to keep me warm
[I need the fire, fire, fire to keep me warm]
I’ve got to fear the fire
[I've got to feel the fire]And if you look into my eye and the toad does something dude
[And if you look into my eyes and you told yourself the truth]
You can make a bunny hop if you don’t ride the goose
[You can't make a body hot if you don't light the fuse]
I need the fire, fire, fire to keep me warm
[I need your fire, fire, fire to keep me warm]
I’ve got to build a fire
[I've got to feel the fire]Source: Misheard lyrics taken from The Japanese Flannel, actual lyrics from Sawasdee Gackt: Lyrics ~ Gackt ~ I only include a portion of the lyrics, minor amendments have been made too.
Just take a listen to the song and you’ll realize that Gackt’s lyrics sounds more like The Japanese Flannel’s version.
My favorite lines include “I get butt-sore every night”, “I come with stuff that rhymes with ‘C’” and “You can make a bunny hop if you don’t ride the goose”. Now I know what to do.. Since I don’t ride a goose, I’ll make a bunny hop. Gackt sure gives good advices.

I love Gackt and all,but I think Stevie Wonder would try to kill himself if he heard that.
by aurora_starfire (Oct 30, 2004 at 12 AM)Gackt’s english will get better eventually. He just has to keep practicing, like me in Spanish! My pronounciation is horrible!
Gackt’s english is so screwed, he wears suits and dyes his hair blonde
looks like caucasian, even got the blue eyes i think. or was it green
the problem – this fellows speaks bad english, lol
by Mr. Dew (Oct 30, 2004 at 1 AM)yeah…but he’s gorgeous…I mean,so talented!
by aurora_starfire (Nov 1, 2004 at 11 PM)he’s a walking orchestra, basically. He can play so many instruments. And they say band geeks don’t make it in the world…
he’s talented and he can make stevie so mad, lol
i like a couple of his songs too, i haven’t heard them all though
by Mr. Dew (Nov 3, 2004 at 10 PM)I know this post is so old…
Have you heard Vanilla yet? If you like ska,it might be your thing.I was dancing to it when I first heard it and I was like,”Wow! He and his band can really jam!”
then I became the curious cat and tried to figure out what he was saying,so I looked for the English translation.
Oy,vay…It’s very…um…suggestive,lol
Then I saw the live performance of it.
Lots of fanservice, screaming girls,Gackt humping his guitarist…it was kinda funny, but I pictured something different!
I thought he was going to say,”Come on,kids! Let’s all dance like lunatics!”
Boy,was I wrong.I still think he rocks,though.

I haven’t heard Vanilla, I’ll get my hands on it someday, lol.. I haven’t heard much ska too, but I do welcome them. Most of the music I listen to are rock, R&B, hip hop and rap. Pretty much what you would hear on the Billboard charts (we get KIIS’s Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 in Singapore, didn’t get the Billboard countdown).
by Mr. Dew (Dec 6, 2004 at 11 PM)I listen to Rick Dees, too!
by aurora_starfire (Dec 7, 2004 at 2 AM)Every Sunday morning-at 5AM EST.It’s too early, but it’s worth it.That’s the only thing on the radio on a Sunday morning.Other than that,it’s either talk shows about the local goverment or dead air. There’s a Billboard radio program? It’s probably only played in the big cities like New York or L.A.
They always get the good stuff.
aurora_starfire: There isn’t? I thought there is since there is the chart in a magazine (8 Days), hahaa.. Maybe there isn’t a radio show.
I listen to Rick Dees, I like his show. It’s one of the better countdowns and he’s quite entertaining too. A couple of my friends prefer local DJs though, but still I think Dees still does the whole count down thing much better. It is packed with celebrity trivia, laughter and strange fashion tips – which I got to admit that I am always clueless on what a ‘foundation’ is.
I listen to Rick Dees on Sundays morning, just a tiny portion though, didn’t get a chance to listen to the full one.
[Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 is syndicated through the Perfect 10 in Singapore (98.7 FM).]
by Mr. Dew (Dec 7, 2004 at 2 PM)we have ours on (in big announcer voice) Kiss 98.5! Western New York’s Number One Hit Music Station!
by aurora_starfire (Dec 7, 2004 at 7 PM)It’s the only station that actually has something on all the time! Everyone else has too many commercials and not enough music, lol
aurora_starfire: I see, at the Perfect 10, there aren’t many advertisements. It’s mainly because not many people choose to advertise in radios these days I think. It’s always the same advertisements at Perfect 10. And they like to advertise their own show so often that you’ll feel kinda sick listening to those ads, hahaa
by Mr. Dew (Dec 7, 2004 at 10 PM)Ok you can’t understand japense well. get to know the language and you see that the way he sings it is alot different then the way you posted it.
Also this song was back in 1999, gackts voice sounds much better now.

by Tom Lansing (Jan 19, 2006 at 10 AM)Tom Lansing: I don’t understand Japanese but I do appreciate their music. I like the style. I’ll take a listen to today’s Gackt’s song when I’m free. I do like Gackt’s songs such as Emu.
by Mr. Dew (Jan 20, 2006 at 5 PM)I happen to love Gackt. His english isn’t too good…but HE’S JAPANESE FOR GOODNESS SAKES! LMAO! Cut him some slack! As if we could speak perfect JAPANESE! LOL!
I appreciate all music…foreign and our own. ^_^ I am a music addict! ^_^
Anyhow…I only hope others around the world can see how beautiful…and…how alike most of our neighboring countries are with their music and how they feel about music. Music is the ONE thing…EVERYONE understands…reguardless of the lyrics. ^_^ If you like the rhythm or the beat…it’s worthy of your attention. There are American songs that make me say…”HUH?” “What did they just say?” LOL! ^_^ So…if you don’t understand the lyrics…that’s only a small portion of your problem. Sure…I go nuts when I wnat to know what an artist is saying…and especially when I’m listening to foreign music. ^_^ But…I search for english lyrics…hoping to find what I’m looking for…and hoping that the translation is correct. LOL!
~HUGS~
I’m glad to see that there are so many people out there that have reached out to grab ahold and experience other music…other than our own. GOOD FOR YOU!
^_^
by Trinity (Oct 30, 2006 at 12 AM)I like his music too actually.
by Mr. Dew (Nov 1, 2006 at 11 PM)His english speaking is alot better. I’ve gotten pretty used to hearing his engrish singing, but if you’ve ever heard him sing December Love, and John Lennon’s Love, you’d be able to see his engrish singing has almost become english singing! But EVERYONE out there should have mad respect for the guy ’cause of his godlike musical talent, and his anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better competitive nature that probably got him to want to learn the six, seven languages he knows. (He says he’s always buying new language books too.)
by Yakuza Sho (Apr 30, 2007 at 7 AM)He knows six or seven languages? Wow, that’s pretty cool actually. I’m trying to pick up his language – Japanese.
by Mr. Dew (Apr 30, 2007 at 7 AM)I love his song you people may say that he speaks bad english…………. you know what who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the songs he sing are wonderful.
by Amethyst Sharie(Dear) (Apr 5, 2008 at 3 AM)He’s just trying to make the world a better place for us.
So whoever thinks negitive of him dont quite feel what he’s feeling.
